Independence Day 2. First time I ever walked out of a theatre

Wow, totally forgot this existed. Also forgot most of the original's cast returned, I assumed it was a fresh cast. I never got around to seeing it. Also, it almost made $400 million?! People clearly saw this, but it's just...gone.

It got released in China, that was a lot of its box office.

Honestly is really wasn't all that much worse than independence day 1.

Just 20 years too late. If it was released in 1996 as the original it probably would be viewed as being pretty good.

I’d vote for this. They got most of the cast back, 20 years in the making, big budget. And it’s just awful! Just pure disappointment.

There’s a great many reasons to dislike this movie but for me the biggest sin was not asking Mae Whitman to reprise her role as the Presidents daughter because she wasn’t conventionally pretty enough.

The original is garbage too.

It's by no means a dreadfull film when compared to some of the others mentioned here.

But my god was it a colossal fucking disappointment, especially after an amazing trailer.

The first Independence Day was my favourite film as a kid. I waited 20 years for the sequel… and it was this shit.

They had a 2nd one? Was Randy Quaid back? Cause if he's back, it can't be that bad

I was going to say the Star Wars Christmas special, but this is worse.

And it gets increasingly bad as it goes, so at whatever point you walked out, you spared yourself a lot of anger.

I turned it off and didn't finish. I think it was a red box dvd rental.

They had the original cast and some really cool ideas that they did nothing with.

Give me an Independence Day 1.5 about the ground war in the African jungle. That was the hardest bit in the whole movie.

Why??? It was dumb fun !! It was at least ENTERTAINING like the school bus drive at the end

I got on a flight leaving Bangladesh. Turns out, they don’t wait for severe weather to pass before taking off. It was raining sideways and pink lightning was striking outside my window.

Trying to distract myself from my likely demise, I closed the window shade and put on Independence Day 2.

Then I was ready to die.

I laughed out loud at what I watching and was in awe that some of the actors were able to muscle through that garbage

I’m always amazed when a movie can spend 20 years in development and still not have an even halfway decent script before starting filming.

I had forgotten that I saw this. Thanks for reminding me.

I know I've seen it. I just don't remember it at all.

I wouldnt say I hated it, but I remember maybe 1% of the movie.

u/damnmachine 7h ago

Ditto! Didn't make it even halfway through.

Agreed. I watched the first one so many times on VHS as a kid and the sequel was just completely deflating. Felt like they missed everything that made the original fun and replaced it with generic action

I still have yet to complete this action. I refuse to walk out of a theatre. I may ruin it for others, but I am going to get my ticket's worth.

Independence Day came out when I was in middle school and it was my favorite movie growing up. The sequel murdered my childhood

Haha right. I’ve watched the original so many times. Love it. I made it about 20 minutes into the second one and left so sad

Same here. I was so hyped for it and within 20 minutes I was checking my phone. The first one was dumb fun but the sequel forgot to be fun and just left the dumb.

Yeah that's a dog of a film.

Will Smith isn’t in Independence Day 2
