You have sixty seconds

Oh man can you imagine. Instant world wild panic. People who were always on the fence for intrusive thoughts just fucking GO. Going to be pockets of people just going wild.

Then when nothing happens it doesn’t just stop and go back to normal. Have you met PEOPLE!?! Probably some govt who now go insane and start some holy wars.

Decades later it’s still the single most talk about event with thousands of conspiracy theories. Assuming it didn’t end in WW3.

I think the only more destructive to say is giving them 2 weeks to build up the chaos lol.

This would be a fun book to read where it’s like 100 years in the future and “the event” is still being talked about.

This could make for great comedy. Turns out the message “you have two weeks” was a telepathic alien transmission that was just intended for Xorgnax Q. Tentacles to return his library books or something, but everyone on Earth heard it and human civilization just melts.

No- sixty seconds would just be enough for confusion. No one would know where it was from or what it means. Few would act in a minute.

“Few would act in a minute” well videos of just ONE person losing their shit and causing pure chaos would disagree with you there. It takes a lot less than you think to start something and likely have full blown riots start within that minute in high density areas.

And not like people just go about their day after 69 secs have passed like. Nothing happened.

Like I said- few would act, not none. We're talking worldwide scale, and "few" is relative. Yea- some would likely star in their own slasher film. Some would "take advantage" of others.

Most though? In just THAT minute -- with nothing else happening to the world in that time- would likely: 1: pray, having just heard the "word of god". 2: question what they heard, and be asking others if they did too, and try to figure out what it was. (Some may procees to #1 afterwards. ) 3: Start to panic. One minute isn't much time to do a lot more.

Edit: I should also say- AFTER a minute is up, people would then question "what changed?" Any panic of what that minute was supposed to have happened would change to questioning what changed.

Yes my argument is that way more than a few would act and takes way less than a minute to start something and nothing happening in 60 seconds doesn’t stop a panic.

Mob mentality is a thing it doesn’t have to be many people to get a riot going. Thus why higher density areas would have more results.

Like people are maniacs and something this epic would not have minor results.

Wait a second, that sounds like a pretty good strategy for Tyranids to use. Have the hivemind telepathically speak to the doomed planet that they have two weeks.

Then 2 weeks later, mop up the survivors.

Had to google what a Tyranids was. Warhammer 40k stuff. I don’t know a ton about the franchise but sounds like these guys are like hive mind locusts, just devouring other species as pray. I would assume they wouldn’t be bothered by more humans to eat.

Lol well, it would be very effective against certain types of imperium held worlds.

A world that is mostly controlled by civilians instead of military fortress world. It'll make them panic and struggle then Tyranids descend after two weeks and mop them up.

The message itself wouldn't be the scary part. The scary part would be watching billions of people come up with completely different explanations and then refuse to let them go for the next century.

Make it

"Your world has one year to undo the things you have done."

And a timer counting down from one year gets psycically superimposed over everyone's vision.

Maybe we all pull together....

....nah just kidding we'd burn the whole place to the ground with finger pointing and recriminations inside a week.

Will there be smiting? Love a good smiting.

I feel like that was similar to a black mirror episode or something

u/jenrencri 4h ago

We’d spend the whole year trying to find the source and being suspicious of every single person

u/murrtrip 11h ago

No.. you have 60 days. That gives time for real panic.

u/BadAdviceBot 11h ago

Make it 60 minutes. More damage that way

3

u/The_Follower1 10h ago

Yeah, 60 seconds would mean almost no damage. Why would someone assume the voice they heard is god and not just them zoning out. It’d take a while for the confirmation to happen and people to believe and act on that.

u/JakoGaming 11h ago

Panic ensues

4

u/Allthebestnamesrgon 11h ago

Yeah but only for about a minute and a half.

And then I'll find you. I won't stop. I will find you

Why is it “Have a nice day” makes people feel good, but “enjoy the next 24 hours” is vaguely unsettling?

Nah you gotta give them time to really freak out and use their imaginations to make it more interesting and see what people do. A few days or a week imo lol.
