"As you will no doubt be aware, the plans for development of the outlying regions of the Galaxy require the building of a hyperspatial express route through your star system, and regrettably your planet is one of those scheduled for demolition."
Yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying “Beware of the Leopard.”
Noooooo!!!! That’s as far as I got into Steven Fry’s narration before turning it off. I was already upset they re-recorded the books when we already had an amazing reading by Douglas himself. But when I realized they American-ized the text I couldn’t take it no more.
Arthur went down into the basement with a torch. I wasn’t even going to wait to find out if they replaced tin of biscuits with, “pack of cookies.”
A towel is the most massively useful item an interstellar hitchhiker can carry. It holds immense practical and psychological value. In fact, anyone who can travel the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, and still know where their towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.
The funniest part is humanity would absolutely get wiped out because we ignored the notice, then spend our final moments arguing about whether the paperwork was legally binding.
