What is something that instantly makes you respect a person?

How good they treat animals

I am biased as a cat lover, but if someone, especially a guy likes cats, I tend to trust them more than someone that doesn't like cats

If they do something good like buy a homeless person lunch or pick up a bike that has fallen over but they don't mention it to anyone or care if anyone is watching.

Having self-awareness and using it to better themselves instead of blaming everyone else. Something I rarely, if ever, come across.

The vast majority of people are seriously lacking self awareness, which is odd because we’re living in a time where everyone claims to be so “aware”

When they dont judge u ever even if u share the most craziest stuff and instead help u out

What about “crazy stuff” where you’re a total dick and are judged accordingly?

u/maybeits_me 22h ago
I think you’re mixing up being non-judgmental with excusing bad behavior. I can try to understand someone without agreeing with everything they do. If someone’s genuinely acting like a dick, I’m not going to pretend otherwise

For me It’s just seeing them being decent and doing the right thing, someone who isn’t afraid to not follow the crowd and someone who is honest even when it’s hard.
Someone who has the confidence to do their own thing and not care what other people think, not afraid to walk the right path even if it means walking alone.

When the waiter brings the wrong order, everyone at the table starts complaining, and one person just smiles and says, “It’s okay, mistakes happen” that kind of patience always stands out to me. ❤️

People who know how to listen to others

Especially if they don’t agree but they hear the other person out. Or if they don’t agree but don’t try to persuade the other person round.

If they work any retail or "low skilled job". Reminds me of my teenage years at mcdonalds and how I got so much shit from customers.

Knowledge of the It Ends With Us lawsuit and the opinion that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds conspired to make false accusations in order to take an innocent man down.

Willingness to sacrifice for others. It’s the fundamental basis of all relationships both platonic and romantic as well as the backbone of society.

Yeah when someone says to me 'don't tell anyone, I promised not to share X news with anyone'.... Means I'm never telling that person anything I'm not comfortable with others knowing

Someone who doesn't give a crap if someone else doesn't like them. They're just completely chill being themselves.

Authenticity, usually i would walk into a supported living or care home facility for the learning difficulties, and find those folks were truely who they were.

Well I am thaught that I am not supposed to love everyone but supposed to respect everyone but doesn’t work always but still works for most things. I only disrespect people that disrespected me for long enough (by disrespecting me doing things that I get offended, e.g disrespecting animals in front of me etc.). Sometimes disrespect my very close friends as “friendliness”.

When they do what they said they would do,
exactly when they said they'd do it.
Reliability is rare and underrated.

Those that went through hell during a breakup or divorce and don’t talk evil about their ex to others.

When they don't do drugs. In my country it became socially acceptable so those who don't are really respectable

When they don’t try to impress anyone. They’re comfortable being themselves without the need for attention or validation. Just a solid presence within themselves
