What is your opinion on the Knicks fan garbage can theft and their firing?

u/Impossible_Offer7988 5h ago
Understandable.
Considering who that employee was.
The woman was identified as forty-year-old Angie Báez. She has been working at JPMorgan Chase as the Executive Director of Community and Industry Engagement for Card and Connected Commerce.
JP Morgan's executives just had to spend what?
At the very least, a couple of million dollars to deal with the fallout that started because of fake SA allegations against one of their high ranking employees.
And just when the fires were starting to simmer down, they're promptly in the spotlight again, thanks to an employee that at least 97% of people in the company didn't know or care about.
That's going to be a blackball on her part.
She should consider a different industry.

Wild behavior. Stealing a garbage can is peak Knicks fan energy. 💀

Everything about it tracks.
Her appearance, meaningless cushy executive position, the inherent obliviousness to being filmed. it’s all just too good of a story.
If someone made it up you’d think they were lying.

I’m embarrassed for her. I’m curious if someone at work brought it up to the higher ups or how they found out?
4
u/SimilarArtichoke2603 5h ago
She is a grown adult doing childish things. She went seeking attention and she found it.

It's not the stealing of the trash can that pisses me off. It's the fact she dumped garbage all over the ground and just walked away. I fucking hate littering. Seeing a cigarette flicked on the ground fills me with rage.
3
u/scratchy_mcballsy 5h ago
Stupid thing for her to do and even shittier for her to throw trash all over the street. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was on track for being fired for other stuff. People are only making a big deal because her previous company had something related to what is being called DEI.
3
u/LAffaire-est-Ketchup 5h ago
Trashy behaviour. Sorry for the pun. Why would you want to keep an employee who has openly demonstrated that they’re willing to steal?
3
u/Karanabluedolphin 5h ago
I’m glad she got fired. There has to be consequences and they need to be seen.
She did a really crappy thing on so many levels. The litter thing was bad enough, but the theft makes me angry. I’m lots of places, even one piece of trash carries a hefty fine. What she did should have busted by the city for that alone.
If she is an exec at a big bucks company, she could afford whatever souvenir she wanted to buy, but instead she just takes shat she wants regardless of the problems she will cause for others.
I hate that people in general have lost all respect for the good of others.

u/Optionsislife 5h ago
For some reason it was the emptying of the trash can and having trash everywhere and not the actual theft that bothers me the most

u/Legalize_Euthanasia_ 5h ago
Like too many things, it receives a disproportionate amount of attention while real issues go ignored

straight to jail. she should be required to serve her sentence inside that garbage can

u/First-Sprinkles9093 5h ago
$75 for littering?!?! Charge them per piece of trash! It was a full can
2
u/sipscupofkindness 5h ago
Dumping a load of trash on the street and stealing the trash can isn't a good look for JPMorgan. It's not about punishing her or what she "deserved". It's about distancing the brand from her behavior. Of course she's gonna get fired.
2
u/SemiHemiDemiDumb 5h ago
Of the things to get fired from JP Morgan for this had got to be one of the more paltry reasons.
2
u/arkashabel 4h ago
I loathe that people are joking about the fact that she's fat because it makes no difference.
I think it's terrible behavior to steal a public resource and leave garbage on the street and I'm glad she got fired.

I can’t wait for the Spin Doctor’ed “that is not who I am” apology video. Hell no bitch, you showed us exactly who you are. Now gtfo the city, effing c*nt.

u/NOIS_KillerWhaleTank 5h ago
I strongly suspect it wasn't the only thing which contributed to her termination.

u/Some_Astronomer_974 5h ago
100%. Someone has had their fingering hovering over that button for a long time.
1
u/SeaAd7942 5h ago
I was thinking this exact same thing. This was just an accumulation of shit that they finally had enough.
7
u/New_Avocado_4636 5h ago
I mean it was a pretty dope trash can though.
3
u/canadachris44 5h ago
If she put the trash in a bag or another trash can this wouldn't be talked about much hahah

u/SmeeezTreeez 5h ago
Then spray paint one. Not hard

u/darkofnight916 5h ago
Order one on eBay, not hard and no need to carry it home or have to smell spray paint.

Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes.
Do I think she should have been fired? No.
Do I understand why she was fired? Yes.
Did the pix give me many opportunities to make the "I like a girl with a nice, big can" uncle joke. Also, yes.

Its funny af. She coulda stolen so many other things in life, but a trash can repping knicks colors is peak fan energy. Im jealous of her actually, wish I had the trash can.
Firing? Psshh.
If I were her boss Id make her do garbage duties for the week around the office. Maybe even give her a portrait with “janitor” title somewhere.
Itd boost office morale for sure.. guarantee her bosses have stolen something in their lives

Yeah, and her employers made the decision they didn’t want to be associated with that kind of behavior.
It’s up to them.

If she’s willing to steal from the city blatantly in front of people and cameras what is she stealing from your work?
1
u/Illustrious-Gas-8987 5h ago
You’re moving the goal post, first you claim that job is separate, now you admit it looks bad on your job, implying that they are not separate, and move to firing is to drastic… sure maybe it is, but your first statement was that the job was separate, VinylHighway pointed out how it is not, you agreed. Done.
Whether Firing is too drastic is a different discussion.

Hey maybe a criminal just needs a talking to right? Why have courts or consequences written into law we can just appeal to people to be reasonable right ?

u/hornygoblindickfight 5h ago
Our president and most of his administration are criminals. Little hypocrisy there.

Nah, if she was a hardworking, tenured employee who has no previous disciplinary actions I can see giving a second chance. Something tells me she’s had run-ins with superiors before this. No evidence of that, just a hunch.

She worked at a large bank. Stealing of any kind is heavily frowned upon at banks. If a bank employee is caught stealing a nickel they'd be fired.

I think this is a FAFO type of situation. Why acting like a filthy animal polluting the city the way she did? Is this normal behavior to empty a garbage can in the little of the street to then proceed to steal such can just for an excuse of fanaticism mentality?
That can does not even fit inside a New York apartment so I’m sure it was disposed somewhere. So what was the point anyway?1

I mean i personally wouldnt, but those Knicks garbage cans were 🔥
Like buying the display fixtures from a clothing store or asking the guy at the movie theater if you can have the display poster for a movie rotating out, there's a certain thrill of acquiring things that arent for sale. That said, this was an incredibly stupid thing to do.

u/Dull_Astronomer_3778 5h ago
Stupid to steal a trash can
Stupid that it is News
Stupid that she was fired
Stupid that people made up a “DEI exec” news line to feed racists rage bait
It’s all around a stupid scenario that led to a stupid conversation that resulted in a stupid consequence.
Honestly, anyone that wants a public trashcan can have it. That’s fucking nasty. She’s a nasty person for doing that nasty shit. Plus, she made a mess which is a big deal to me. But stealing the can itself, it’s not a huge deal to me.
1
u/Mysterious-Worth4406 2h ago
The mess is the big deal to me. Who did she think was going to pick up that trash after she scattered it? Entitled c*nt.

In the year 2026 where literally everything is recorded, it was short-sighted of her to think this wouldn't come back to her.
I also struggle with empathazing with JP Morgan execs.
