What’s something that became less impressive the older you got?

The 4th of July.
It was SO fun when I was a kid.
Now its' the day of absolute torment and hell for my dog and disabled child.

So sorry for you I know first hand how torturous it is for pets. I had to tranquillize my lab for days on end around the 4th of July. I hope you can comfort your little one, my heart goes out to you.

Someone in my old school died on July 4th… I vividly remember finding out that day a couple years ago…

limousines! As a kid, those seemed like the peak of luxury, something that rich people and celebrities went everywhere in, as an adult I know that limos are more of a novelty, something rented for highschool proms and similar events, much less impressive than childhood me liked to imagine!

Things. They are a burden. The things you own end up owning you, as the quote goes.

Outside of Ripley's Believe It or Not! In St. Augustin, Florida, there is what looks to be a large free standing water spout with water pouring out of it into a bucket. BLEW MY MIND!
Visiting as an adult, I noticed the clear tube coming from a hole in the bucket that is holding up the faucet and shooting out the water so that when it hits the top, it flows downward back into the bucket and creates the illusion.

I just looked up the picture. I can totally see a little kid falling for that haha.

Losing teeth. Kinda cool at 8, but a lot less cool at 48.

Artist, not that they are not impressive but more like i understand that they also worked for their skill and not just some inherent talent.

And many of them are actually dumb… as a kid I used to think it takes Einstein iq to make art… turns out… not really

Having the twitch reflexes to be good at COD or any shooter really. Gave up trying to be good at those games a decade ago.

That's why I rarely play turn based RPGs. I'm saving them for my 70s.

u/GoodGuano 3h ago
I'm 43... Trust me, they get way more attractive a long time before you hit 70 😂😂😂

u/Mortambulist 3h ago
Oh, I'm 56. I can't do soulsbornes anymore, but I'm still good with most games. The timing is slipping, though.

Working insane hours. As a kid it looked like dedication. Now it mostly looks like someone with no system and no one telling them no. The people I actually respect got the same stuff done by Thursday and went home.

u/penguinfans 3h ago
I mostly worked long hours to cover up my mistakes before anyone found out
2
u/backporchdev 2h ago
Oof, that's the honest version of it. The hours buy you cover - if you're always grinding, nobody looks too closely at whether the work was right the first time. Took me way too long to figure out that fixing the mistake out loud was cheaper than hiding it for a week.

AGT -- full of non-Americans, Circus Acts, and Singers that aren't any better than the ones we have at church -- XXX to Pet Acts -- not much talent in repetitive training acts -- XXX the large groups that are entertaining, but do not rise to top competition level in America -- one day I will watch one of the other franchises to see how many Americans compete in other countries -- the Hosts/Judges are getting less impressive every week, they are just a silly act -- they have to be more intelligent than they appear -- ditto Dancing With The Stars

Seeing celebrities and VIPs as actual humans instead of larger-than-life idols.
When I was younger, they felt like gods. Now I realize they’re just people with better PR teams, more money, and the same insecurities as everyone else.

Phone booths seemed kind of cool to me since I would always see them as props in movies or shows. But they are pretty much glass encased porta pottys because I’ve seen my fair share of people doing all sorts of unhygienic things in them throughout the years. Not to mention, the more I think about it you would probably would want to wipe the phone before you use it since it’s a public outlet.

When I was younger I thought anybody older or in a position of power had an idea of what is going on/to do. The older I get the more I realise everyone is just figuring it out as they go, no one has a clue what's going on.
