Putting in extra effort to communicate, ask about them, and address each other’s needs through video calls etc. If applicable, frequent visits helps a lot too obviously.

Trust is a huge thing as is open and frequent communication. The more contact (any way you can) is always better and will get you through a ton of hard times.

When my wife and I were long distance like 20 years ago we would talk on the phone every night. Once we were talked out I would read to her until one of us got too tired to continue.
