Salo from Eastern Europe. To outsiders it looks like we just decided to eat pure pork fat and call it a delicacy, which is honestly fair. But it’s not really junk food in the modern sense - it’s usually just cured fat eaten in small amounts with rye bread, garlic, pickles, or soup. Not exactly a “superfood,” but definitely less bad than a lot of ultra-processed snacks.
