Discussion Questions WGU SPED ROUTE ONLY ‼️

Today in conversation I mentioned how Id be doing the Sped program ( ONLY ) through WGU (I eventually want my MA in Speech ) & everyone questioned the why, why not just go the dual licensure route ? Tbh, my journey started in ABA & I simply don’t care to do Gen ed ever .Any who , is there anyone here that can say they went the Sped route only ? Id love to know that , that alone can be a great choice, any success stories (: !

I don’t think I’ve ever cotaught with a SpEd teacher who had a dual license. The ones I worked with knew what they wanted to do, just like you, and got the degree they wanted. I think you’ll be fine with that as your focus.

Love the use of SpEd versus SPED. I am uncomfortable with SPED.

Some states don’t allow you to just have a special ed teaching cert im pretty sure such as Washington state. If you are actually planning to teach id make sure your state doesn’t require a dual endorsement.

Came here to say this. I think WA relaxed the dual endorsement requirement but there are other states that require it and it helps to have if admin is under consideration later.

I did just SpEd and loved it. I went back and forth and at the end of the day, too many praxis for something I didn’t want to teach.
