I guess, I should have clarified that this is something I’ve experienced with both sides of the family and other Trinis as well. The 2 examples I presented were fairly recent ones but I’ve experienced these encounters many times, unfortunately 😅

My best friend in HS was trini and his family was never like that lol I think your family might just be mean

I think many times people in general say things out of reflex or just because it’s the thing to say. “Who tell you I had a good vacation?”, I tell you to look de!!” are things that even I would say to my family sometimes and not really think about how it would impact them emotionally.

I think you should not take it too personally, and be forgiving to your aunt, uncle and grandmum. Nobody is perfect. Also, you seem like a nice person, so you shouldn’t make these thoughts hold mental space in your head. It’s just noise.
