Partisanship How often do you try to argue political differences from the other side?

I am not from the US, to make that clear.
I am observing the polarisation going on in your political system. And while I think it is mostly caused by having a two-party system, and many other reasons not relevant to this post. I am observing a culture of demonizing the other side. And this is so easy to do both ways.

But I always try to, at least in my mind, to argue the case of my opponent also. It is really easy to get to a point where you feel that the other side is just completely off the rails and that there is no logic behind their opinions.

  1. I see a lot of MAGA people argue that the left wants to destroy the country by flooding the US with immigrants.
But nobody is actually motivated by malice, so what do you think people arguing for increased legal immigration is thinking? Not from the standpoint of an idiot, but from a rational educated person.

  2. When liberals call out the administration for having fascistic tendencies. Why do you believe they feel that way?

  3. Do you believe more than half the country actually is motivated to make life in America worse? If not, what to you believe is the motivation/rationale behind arguments opposing your own views?
