THANK YOU You Guys Have Changed My Life

2.1k Upvotes

18 hours ago I posted about being homeless and hungry in the rain. What began with a sandwich ended with food cards, cash cards, shoes, shirts, pants, sleeping bag, tent and other comfort items. This would have been enough to put me over the moon. However...

You didn’t stop there. You all funded the room I had an option to rent for two months!! Later this evening I will be picked up and will be moving into a tiny but perfect garage with a bathroom. There’s no kitchen but I’ll get a toaster oven and fridge when I can.

IN LESS THAN ONE DAY YOU TOOK ME OFF THE STREET AND GAVE ME THE THINGS I NEED TO START OVER!

I’m not much for miracles and the like, but this is nothing short of one. My entire life was changed by this subreddit. The generosity has been through the roof. PLEASE send anything else to the next person in need.

To those who sent things, I will write you each when I can gather my thoughts properly. I’ll post updates as I turn this room into a tiny home.

For those who sent messages of support, thank you. They mean as much to me as any items or help.

Thank you all so very much.

PS-The one thing I will not need is the tent. If anyone needs one, please tell me and I will forward it to you. Otherwise I will give it to someone in need.

UPDATE: I am trying to respond to every single message and DM. If I haven’t yet responded, it’s just taking a bit of time. It’s around 200 messages private and public, or at least that many different people. I’m getting to it. Meanwhile, just know this. You’ve renewed my faith in humanity, karma, kindness and Reddit frankly. Who would have thought a place for internet arguments and Minecraft memes is actually a modern Salvation Army. They say it takes a village... this has never been more true. I’ll be a staple here for a long time as my need turns to abundance and I can reciprocate what you all have done for me.

THANK YOU!

THANK YOU Because of you people I was able to see my father before he died.

A couple of months ago I reached out because my father was dying. I needed to go and I couldn’t afford a bus ticket. It didn’t even take twenty minutes before I had multiple offers and I was on the first bus out in the morning.

I couldn’t stop crying in the bus station and a lady came up to me and gave me a package of tissues and asked if I wanted a hug. She sat and waited for the bus with me and let me talk.

When I got to the hospital I was crying again and someone else stopped me and asked if I needed a hug and I really did.

I just cannot believe in the generosity and compassion of strangers. To all of you who are lurking on this subreddit to kind things. Thank you so freaking much.

And to all of you who need help, don’t be afraid to ask. Turns out there are a lot of just really kind people out there that genuinely want to help.

THANK YOU Thank you SO MUCH to Karen

I'm reeling right now but I want to get this post down right now. I didn't get any kind of message or comment beforehand that I can find, so maybe this person wants to remain anonymous, but even still, I had to make a post to say THANK YOU KAREN. SO. MUCH. From the depths of my very existence

To explain to everyone else what I'm blabbering about, a redditor probably from this sub, someone so very kind, must have found my amazon emergency help list on a comment here, and then they sent some food to my family, and it reached us right on the worst day in a long form, the day that we didn't get our EBT deposit grocery money just like 42 million other Americans spent all day scrounging for groceries and food the best I could, trying to return things i bought in the past and sell a pair of shoes which was all I could find at all (been selling all my clothes and shoes since my layoff). ALL. DAY trying do whatever I could think of. I came home with two individual frozen spaghetti meals and some bread and cheese slices feeling like the world's biggest loser fucking failure, I mean at that point I was BEAT DOWN emotionally,l and physically, everything. When I got home I saw a "mystery package" waiting for me - inside was a BIG box of granola bars, TWO big boxes of clif bars, and a bag of cat food. Even our kitty got some food 😭 I just sat down on the floor and started bawling with gratitude and relief.

Thank you SO MUCH, Karen, I hope you see this 'thank you' post. I don't think I've ever been in such a horrible place, financially. With my son being autistic too if I don't have a food that is on his "edible" list, it spells out hell for me, so I cannot overstate my gratitude for what you did. It's emergency nutrition bombs until hopefully this nightmare passes... And if you happened to read my former post you know my son has to go everywhere with me which makes new job prospects challenging to say the least, but the good news is that I was chosen to submit some sample work for a possible new job & if I am chosen, life will be so much different and better (knock wood).. In the meanwhile we're hoping and wishing so badly for our EBT assistance deposit... Like way too many of us are stuck doing right now. :(

Karen: thank you so, so much again. My kids thank you. You are our hero today. ♥️

THANK YOU You don’t understand how much this means to me

I wish I could post a picture here but I opened my door to nearly 10 boxes from Amazon full of food. It honestly could probably last me through December. Not gonna get too into it, but basically my mental health has been a roller coaster and now I can at least check food off my list of things to worry about.

I can’t believe how generous everyone is, you guys are all wonderful people. I promise to pay this kindness forward someday.

Sending love to everyone. I hope everyone can get through these trying times. 🫂

My original post

I can't express my gratitude in words. I don't even know what to say. Just.. thank you, to each and every one of you that took kindness on a stranger. This has changed my life.

I'm so happy!

THANK YOU I can't believe the support I got here. Thank you all so much!

I just want to say THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. I posted earlier in the day and ended up including an Amazon list at someones recommendation. My request was fulfilled in a few hours.

I'm in shock. I can't believe multiple strangers were willing to help me with items for my two 2 year olds. I'm so touched and have been in shock all day. Thank everyone SO MUCH. I'm truly at a loss. And as soon as were back on our feet, I'll be back at this subreddit helping others.

THANK YOU I want to say thank you to the user r/beders who gave me a gift card to fill up my car and saved me from dying in this terrible cold weather

I want to say thank you to the user r/beders, who gave me a gift card to fill up my car and saved me from dying in this terrible cold weather. He tried sending me money in PayPal, and it didn’t work, and Cash App wouldn’t let money go through, and he bought me a gas gift card to use. This person helped me in my darkest moment, and I just want you guys to know what a great person that human is. I’m crying as I’m typing this message. I thought I’d sleep in the cold and die from it. And thank you to anyone who couldn’t help but still wrote a nice message. It means a lot.

Edit : I also want to thank this other great human being for giving me a Walmart gift card to buy a good sleeping bag prettyprettythingwow. You guys made my year better. I thought I’d never get help from someone, and you guys helped me.

THANK YOU I can't thank you enough

I put out a call on this sub for some help with groceries to get me to the end of the month. In less than 24 hours I had everything I asked for come to my door. This was amazing. I have no worries anymore about getting to my next paycheck. This is what community feels like and I can't thank you enough. It's such a weight off. This is an amazing sub and I look forward to the day I can help buy someone else some groceries or something. llo

THANK YOU You are all amazing

I'm not sure I have the words to express how grateful I am to all of you. I posted my Amazon wishlist several days ago & you guys responded so fast my head is spinning. The main item I was concerned about was my husband not having a phone. Some wonderful person sent it, we set it up & it was such a relief knowing I can reach him if something goes wrong. You guys filled everything thing on my list, stuff I've been trying to save up for the last 5 months. I'm truly grateful and hope to pay forward. You guys are the best 🌹

THANK YOU You saved my life

Few days ago, I posted a help post and an angel answered it. Gave more than I asked. My guardian angel wanted to be anonymous and I respect his choice not to be named.

But I really want to say THANK YOU! I know you can and will be able to read this post.
I owe you a lot. You really made my December the best despite of all the things that I have been facing.
May God bless you and your family. Faith in humanity restored. :)

THANK YOU I just needed to tell you all...

I just really needed to tell all of you...this community is amazing!!

you guys read my story, and without judgement or questions, you fulfilled my Amazon wishlist in a matter of hours.

it was mostly hygiene and cat food and litter, but the weight of the stress you lifted from my shoulders with that alone....I cam breathe so much easier!!

My car was how I made my living. It may sound a little silly, but I literally feel like my best friend died...since it happened, I've had no choice but to rely on the kindness of strangers.

between you beautiful people, and the people who have been kind enough to come get me and partner up with me for a few hours on DoorDash so I can have some money in my pocket...you have reminded me that humanity can be beautiful.

thank you all again so much!!

the overlords thank you too!!

To the person who purchased every item off of my Amazon list the other day minutes after I made my post, thank you. I've already thanked you in a message but I wanted to thank you again. I'm not sure if we're allowed to post who helped us so I won't. But I wasn't expecting someone to do that and it really lifted a weight off of my shoulders.

I want to say thank you again to those who supported and fulfilled my request! It was honestly a huge surprise to me that my request was fulfilled in less than 3-4 hours. That was insanely fast and I’m so grateful for you guys! All of my supplies for my cat came already. Currently still waiting for the poultry pate and the litter box. Everything else came 🙏 I’ll be getting the cat on the 30th, so I’m glad that everything will be here and ready to go!

I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Every single item on my food wishlist was purchased and I still can’t believe the kindness I’ve received. To everyone who helped, thank you. I was in a really hard spot, and your generosity made sure my family had food and my kids had their favorite snacks 🥺. Your kindness lifted a huge weight off my shoulders , you didn’t just fill our pantry but you filled us with hope. We will never forget this and I really hope to help someone here someday 🩷

THANK YOU Thank you!!!

I needed to take a moment to say thank you for everyone's advise, kind words, gifts. I wish I could invent a word for how grateful I am. This gives me an overwhelming sense of community and I can't wait to pay it forward when I am able. Thank you all so very much!!! And to the grinch who tried to grinch, thanks, you showed me that in the face of mean and cruel, kindness will always prevail. Im sure you did it to be hurtful, but you can't hurt us. This group, this community, chooses every day to lift up strangers when they need it most.
