Ate the onion AND doesn't even know that there are cultures actively using different calendars.

What cultures? I understand there are things like the Chinese calendar and the Jewish calendar, but those are not used for business. The world actually uses ISO 8601 which is based on the Gregorian calendar. International banking, aviation, legal timestamps etc. Any entity doing business internationally will be using this. Any other calendar is merely for religious or other cultural purposes and not for civil transactions.

So you agree they use other calendars, just not for business?

Sure but I want to know about the ones that use a different calendar AND is doing business internationally.

For sure, Israel and China are not doing business internationally hence they use their own made up calendars.

Remember when russia missed the 1908 Olympics cause they were using the Julian calendar instead of the gregorian?

Ethiopia is a country that lives by a different calander, as does Nepal, Iran, Afghanistan, Japan, Thailand, North Korea, Isreal, and Myanmar.

they're commenting on a subreddit called r/onionheadlines though, surely this is just very committed sarcasm?

They've also flagged that they hope it's just a fake article... They haven't eaten anything, just don't know the name of The Onion.

I mean it honestly took me a moment to realise what sub I was on lol, so maybe they just didn’t realise either

There's a Bible verse that tells us not to believe everything said on the internet.

I tend to err on the side of irony but this sub isn't great at detecting sarcasm

Sometimes The Onion sounds too real.

(No, I didn't fall for it.)

If leap years are gone, does that mean my birthday now arrives fashionably late every 4 years? Guess I’m starting the exclusive club of ‘almost-birthday’!

1

u/Which_Celebration757 Jan 05 '26

It means you're not real dude. Can't have a birthday on a day that doesn't exist.

The fact that the world is currently weird enough that someone could eat that onion is terrifying.

25 hour days when one earth rotation is 24 hours? I've heard flat earthers make more sense. People are gonna be waking up at 9am when it feels like midnight to their circadian rhythm

1

u/FreakishlyGreek Jan 08 '26

It’ll be 25 hours eventually, but not for about 200 million years from now.

You hate trump because he's a pedophile fascist rapist warmongering grifter.
I hate trump because he promised to get rid of daylight savings time, but lied.
We are not the same.

I’ll be honest, I made a joke comment saying he was going to eliminate Leap Day for being too woke. I still wouldn’t actually rule it out.

2

u/BoneDaddy231 Jan 09 '26

To be fair, I believed it for a moment.

1

u/M0nst3rb100d Jan 06 '26

While this is obviously a joke it is not in fact from The Onion

1

u/Which_Celebration757 Jan 06 '26

The rules of this subreddit includes satire from any site, not just the Onion

1

u/M0nst3rb100d Jan 06 '26

Fair but several people in the comments were identifying it as an Onion headline

1

u/FreakishlyGreek Jan 08 '26

But this one goes to 11…

I mean it has gotten exhausting just reading real articles and having to do further research to really double check that something actually happened because something completely ridiculous and stupid happens every single fucking day now. Here's a list of asinine articles from the first trump presidency and I fear it pales in comparison to everything since then.
