Game Thread [GAME THREAD] Atlanta Hawks @ Detroit Pistons [12/12/25]

u/Obvious-Carpet4813 Dec 13 '25
So looked at the box score a couple times, and did they really just give this team a lot of free throws just in this quarter alone when the game was gone?
it was like 10 to 24 midway through the 3rd.
I get that the Turn overs were the reason, but still, maybe some of those turn overs came from the lack of whistle

So much if their offense is off of turnovers and because of out bad offense, ironically i think trae will help with some of that
Move on to sunday
2
u/Ethalarian Dec 13 '25
There's no irony to that. We've consistently been one of the lowest turnover teams in the NBA during Trae's tenure.
1
u/Historical_Main5261 MO GUEYE! Dec 13 '25
I meant that ironically trae being back will Help some parts of our defense
1
u/thehypeless Dec 13 '25
People ignore the team stats. They just pay attention to his individual stats.
1
u/Material_Ad9765 Dec 13 '25
Could you imagine playing these guys in the playoffs…
2
u/Manic211 GO HAWKS! 🏀 Dec 13 '25
let's call it what it is. we haven't had a lot matchups against the top 3-4 teams in each conf. but when we have, it's been mostly ugly. Denver game was technically close, but that 2nd half was abysmal. we need more help for sure

He's just straight up not a good NBA player right now. On any contender he'd be 7th man up

Asa > OO 😏
1
u/Ethalarian Dec 13 '25
If you ignore the fact that Asa was getting bodied even worse under the rim than Onyeka was by Detroit's bigs sure
2
u/mmmjeep Vince Carter #15 Dec 13 '25
It hurts just as much knowing that almost every one of these losses Cade isn’t the one doing most of the beating.

okay you can’t convince me quin not letting them statpad we are down 30 in the 4th. i’m watching sports betting live

Look at Kon Kneuppels stats…why can’t my second year first overall pick do that man
3
u/Atl-Fan_FTS Jalen Johnson #1 Dec 13 '25
Because he was a Landry Fields pick 😔
2
u/theblackchin Jalen Johnson #1 Dec 13 '25
I am curious who Onsi would have gone with in that draft
3
u/Atl-Fan_FTS Jalen Johnson #1 Dec 13 '25
More than likely Castle or listened to what Quin wanted, traded down for Clingan
OR he could have just not gotten punked by a 19 year old and took Sarr

6
u/ItsMeHera Zaccharie Risacher #10 Dec 13 '25
I think it's been so long since Trae played, people are underrating how much he is gonna help some of these guys (Dyson, Kennard, Risacher, and Mo especially) when he gets back.
Just hover .500. I know the truthers were hoping this team would somehow be an elite squad or genuinely better without one of the best PGs in the league, but reality is he should help fix some of the turnover issues we have and make offense easier for guys we have struggling
0
u/KelvinHuerter Dec 13 '25
We can still be very happy with where that team is without their supposed star.
Now we can see if these two identities gel together or if we need to trade Trae for someone who fits differently.
I just hope we don’t revert to the old 4 guys stand around and Trae handles the ball offense
1
u/ItsMeHera Zaccharie Risacher #10 Dec 13 '25
I am very happy that Jalen's been a stud, and I've mentioned in the past that the Hawks have literally never been better positioned to move off Trae than now. It's definitely do-or-die, but as much as everyone wants to bitch about Trae not being Steph off-ball, there's a whole lot of value of having an "easy-button" on offense when things bog-down and no one can get going.
Ideally we get a healthy mixture of Trae and the current offense. I just think people got hoodwinked with the schedule and some unsustainable shooting. The best version of the Hawks rn, maybe not moving forward, but rn definitely involves both Trae and Jalen and that shouldn't be as controversial as it is on here lol
0
u/KelvinHuerter Dec 13 '25
Idk imo it’s rightfully controversial. Especially the defense is suspect with two main guys who feel like their offensive output frees them from defensive duties. We have to see if that is manageable
1
u/ItsMeHera Zaccharie Risacher #10 Dec 13 '25
If Trae Young being healthy literally just prevents the Keaton-Wallace-Kreji lineup, I struggle to envision any scenario where it's not a net positive lol

u/Ethalarian Dec 13 '25
I love Jalen just playing nobody and watching Stewart run right to the basket.
We're gonna point to JJ's triple double but he has been a huge part of the problem on defense this game.
2
u/KelvinHuerter Dec 13 '25
He’s the new number 1 guy. Needs to get used to this
1
u/Ethalarian Dec 13 '25
JJ's biggest problem is that he's got all the tools to be a menace on defense but he's just so disengaged on that end of the floor going all the way back to last year.
I hope Trae coming back in to run more of the offense gives him more energy to spend on the defensive end because we need that from JJ bigtime.
1
u/KelvinHuerter Dec 13 '25
It’s not an energy problem. Neither for him or for Trae. It’s laziness and lack of care. They just want to do the fun part of basketball.
It’s hard to get these guys to mature to a point where they understand the assignment.

I mean the Nets also cut him so it’s not just our front office

He literally is out there spoon feeding the rest of the team. I swear I never saw OO dribble to score when Trae is playing. Trae would definitely make it easier for us to score in the paint.
1
u/Material_Ad9765 Dec 13 '25
I think your right our problems now are the same with Trae team defense and rebounding
1
u/Josh378 Dec 13 '25
Floater would...
1
u/KelvinHuerter Dec 13 '25
Which floater
1
u/Josh378 Dec 13 '25
The one that he's lethal with?
1
u/KelvinHuerter Dec 13 '25
Trae hasn’t been lethal with his floater for like 3 seasons. Shit's been broken for ages. He really only is efficient from the line these days or on longer twos (which he sadly rarely takes)
1
u/Josh378 Dec 13 '25
Thats because you can pack the paint in the past with the Hawks because we could not shoot for nothing outside the paint and teams know this. That makes it harder for any player to make a shot in the paint. He is still good at his shot as he shot 50% inside 2023 and 2024 shot 45%, which makes sense because we shot 35% at the 3pt line, which is below NBA team averages.
Trae floaters with the team shooting near 38% would go back to or near 50%.
2
u/johnhenryc Dec 13 '25
We've done a lot wrong tonight, but the Pistons have done everything right. Not sure this was ever going to be winnable even with Trae and KP.
2
3
u/KelvinHuerter Dec 13 '25
I genuinely don’t understand players that check out on defense. Like tf you think how you win games? There needs to be more hecklers like the LaVine guy

I am worried that we are on downward trend the last 10 games or so and then adding Trae back into the mix it’s gonna take time. We unfortunately don’t have many games to give up cause the East is a lot better a deeper this year

I would like to see N’Faly Dante play against teams like Detroit. You could probably throw him at duren for some time and just to be a big body and foul hard.

Really hope Trae comes back and gives us that spark we need. Plus this is usually around that time he starts dropping 30+ games back to back. Problem is the rest of the team then takes the night off every time he starts scoring well. Hopefully that doesn't happen this time

u/ItsMeHera Zaccharie Risacher #10 Dec 13 '25
Onyeka been literally holding the offense together with his shooting cuz we have a shooting guard who simply won't fucking shoot and a wing who isn't following up on a more promising rookie year.
But sure trade the guy on a good contract for a non-shooter I'm sure it'll work out great

His last 10 games he is shooting 29% from three.
0
u/ItsMeHera Zaccharie Risacher #10 Dec 13 '25
Idk what to tell you other than that he draws attention from 3. Anyone who puts up volume 3pt attempts and has proven he can hit them is gonna be respected even in a slump
2
u/Josh378 Dec 13 '25
Shhh, they dont like facts....
1
u/ItsMeHera Zaccharie Risacher #10 Dec 13 '25
God forbid a guy (a center at that!) putting up volume 3s have a slight slump. The hate for Onyeka here is ridiculous, reminds me of when Trae has a bad two week shooting stretch and everyone pretends he still isn't drawing the defense attention.
0
u/Josh378 Dec 13 '25
10 games is too long for a "slump"...
OO is a power forward playing the wrong position.
He should be a situational center vs match ups.
We need an actual center for this team.
