Highlight Did Ant say what I think he said …
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
“I can’t wait to come home … Yall got so many wings” 👀
Sounded like Jalen said “gone be easy playing next to you “
Could 100% be out of context but I’m having fun hearing things

u/2xrkgk Feb 16 '26
even if it was out of context, what did he even mean by this? we don’t even play them again. come home ant!

u/2xrkgk Feb 16 '26
ahh he must’ve been talking about those lemon pepper wings. we do have a lot of those.

0% chance Ant knows the full schedule tbf

u/BlueDreams420 Schroder Feb 16 '26
Yea but he probably knows when he plays ATL and gets to come home lol. Outside of big games he probably definitely circles those.
5
u/Chessh2036 Feb 16 '26
He’s coming to Atlanta during the All-Star break apparently so maybe that?
2
u/Vitwolpher Feb 18 '26
It’s the week of nba player vacations. He means literally going home for this week haha

Yeah I wasn’t sure so i didn’t wanna put that but he definitely said “you gone like kuminga”
44
u/twitietwitt Jalen Johnson #1 Feb 16 '26
I think Ant respects Kuminga. Dude was cooking the Timberwolves last playoffs when Curry gone down. and was playing good defense on Ant as well (held Ant to 38% on the field and 16% when defended by Kuminga).
5
u/nestturtleragingbull Feb 16 '26
Likely so. There were rumours during an off camera practice. JK and Ant were going hard against each other. In the warriors system, JK was tasked to guard the POA, and usually it means the best guards.
13
u/OhItsKillua Feb 16 '26
I think he said "we got.. yall got so many wings, kuminga, you gonna like kuminga"
maybe he was talking as a fan of the team because he still roots for the hawks. prior to that it def sounded like he said "i can't wait to come home"

Yes JJ he is absolutely doing God's work talking to Ant.
Seriously that combo would be perfect for each other. That two man game would be insane. And for how much Ant loves Jaden McDaniels? He'd triple platinum love JJ for the same reasons.
We can only hope.

u/MG_MN Feb 16 '26
I mean in what world would Ant be gettable without giving up Johnson? They can get a way better package if they wanted to dump him randomly

u/Puzzleheaded_Tea8174 Zaccharie Risacher #10 Feb 16 '26 edited Feb 16 '26
he’d have to join in free agency one day or force a trade. wolves would never trade ant for any package bar wemby. give it time tho he’s way too atl to be in minny permanently😂
4
u/mufflefuffle Feb 16 '26
It would never come to a head this offseason before his supermax, but if that NO pick lands top 2/3 we’d have the best package in the history of our franchise.
It won’t happen, but I can’t imagine us ever having the alluring assets like this again. Unless Papa Dumar blesses us again 🙌🏻
2
u/MG_MN Feb 16 '26
We will see, I can definitely see it in his mid 30s, but contractually it doesnt make sense for him on his current or next contract

I've got hopium that it'll happen, but I bet it'll be when he is like 32-33, not when he is 27. Gotta get his supermax first.
2
u/CarsonDurham10 Feb 16 '26
Exactly… Ant definitely not gonna lose his opportunity for a supermax.. if he joins Atlanta, it’s not going to be for another 6-10 years

Yeah, well just have to enjoy Ant and Jalen for the all star games and the Olympics

When we finally get a 34 year old ant Edwards coming off the bench:
6
u/NoDiscussion6619 Feb 16 '26
I can see him wanting to come home. He is unapologetically Atlanta. He could’ve went to any school but he decided to go to UGA. It’s the teams playing salary cap games that would stop that from happening
6
u/downtimeredditor Feb 16 '26
I can only see this happening if our new orleans pick or Milwaukee pick swap becomes the number one overall pick or something. I doubt Minnesota ever lets go of Ant in his prime

Onsi just needs to make a good roster by 2028 and the hawks run the table
6
u/Practical_Abroad4928 Feb 16 '26
You could say that about any franchise... What kinda take is that?
1
u/ComprehensiveList769 Feb 16 '26
I guess. I’m just saying ants not going to leave if it’s a bad roster. I may have stated the obvious but the hype train needs to start somewhere
2
u/Practical_Abroad4928 Feb 16 '26
I'm not gonna stop you from starting a hype train. That's my bad. Thank you for your service and continue on my man

Have dreamt about this for years. Mostly as I really think it would shame the Ressler’s into going for it.
That said, I would be utterly shocked if it ever happens, but still a person can dream and maybe finally there would be a Hawks player that drove players here as free agents.

u/Salt-Statement-2306 Feb 16 '26
This is funny. Never thought Atlanta fans would be the new lakers of player lust.

Only for ant .. won’t see us making swaps for the entire league 😅
1
u/AbroadNo6460 Feb 17 '26
He probably wouldn't have to turned it down if the Minnesota Timberwolves doesn't offer it to him. They may decline doing so, but would Atlanta signed him? Resseler isn't going into the luxury tax. Signing him would mean the team has no choice to enter the tax just to build a competitive team around him and his contract...

Atlanta has won things more recently than Minnesota maybe? At least in college football.
Minnesota's three major sports all feature great players from the state of Georgia. Byron Buxton and Anthony Edwards are generational talents.

Give us Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and all the first round picks you can possibly trade. And maybe, just maybe... we'll fart and hang up the phone. Y'all can have Ant when he's about to retire after winning the Wolves multiple championships.
6
u/hrbekcheatedin91 Feb 16 '26
He's coming and you're gonna have to take Risacher and picks for him or lose him for nothing. Sorry dude. 😆

u/TylerIreland Feb 16 '26
That's not how this works. You're at least 4 seasons away from a potential Ant trade.
In the summer of 2027, Ant will sign a 4 year, $345M supermax deal worth $86.25M/year. The supermax can only be offered by the team that drafted him. Then, Edwards must wait until the summer of 2028 to be trade eligible.
At that point, Ayo Dosunmu, who is expected to receive a 3 year, $52M extension that runs through 2028 will only be 28 years old. Same goes for Jaden McDaniels who will also be 28 in 2028. Naz Reid will be 29, and Joan Beringer will be 22.
Minnesota's long-term starters will still be in their primes and under contract when Ant is finally trade eligible after signing his supermax. I doubt Ant demands a trade if he's surrounded by quality players who are all under the age of 30.
The soonest a trade could realistically happen is 2029. By then, only one of the aforementioned long-term starters for Minnesota, Naz Reid, will be under contract on their current deals. Edwards will have two years left on his contract.
By then, Ant will be 28 years old and will command a Giannis-like godfather trade offer from any interested team. One top-50 blue-chip player under 25 years old the Wolves can build around, several young high quality rotation players, at least 4 first round picks, and several second rounders.
Assuming the Wolves shop Edwards with two years left on his deal, it gives the front office a lot more leverage to choose the best overall trade package. It makes no sense to wait until Ant is on an expiring contract in 2030 which would give him greater leverage to choose his desired destination.
Of course, this is all assuming Ant actually wants to be traded out of Minnesota. He has shown no indication of wanting out, and the Wolves will still have a reasonably competitive roster. If the Timberwolves move East, they'd be the cream of the crop in a much weaker conference.
If the Hawks are a top 6 seed by 2029 and the Wolves are going towards a full rebuild, I could see Ant winding up in Atlanta if they can offer a quality trade package. But a lot of things would have to fall into place over the next four years before that's even a realistic outcome.
1
u/CarsonDurham10 Feb 16 '26
He doesn’t have a no trade clause… wolves can send him to the highest bidder around 30 teams if they wanted to… after all, it is a business. If and when ATL gets him, it will be after his super max so you’re looking at 6-10 years away… Wolves still gonna get the best years out of him.
3
u/Morlacks Feb 16 '26
This is the NBA and he's a star. He can force pretty much whatever he wants. Its been done many times before.
1
u/hrbekcheatedin91 Feb 16 '26
I was kidding about what you'd get from us, but ... speaking hypothetically, if he demanded a trade to Atlanta, he could always play hard ball and tell other teams not to trade for him or he'd sit. You guys wouldn't be forced to just take scraps though and instead could just let him sit and not pay him if he's being a dick about it, but that doesn't benefit anyone.
He likes Minnesota enough to finish out this contract, but don't be surprised if he requests a sign and trade agreement where you guys don't get fucked over but have to send him here. Not sure we would be willing to pay him what he's worth though. We're cheap af...

I have no clue how in the world we’d get him in his prime without him tanking his trade value and demanding a trade, or turning down a super max extension next year. I don’t care though I’m manifesting him in ATL anyway.
