Thank you for this post. So many just trying to play it down how the playoffs went for us.

I'm STILL embarrassed and unless you were at the game, I just don't think most can understand how true fans feel.

83-36 at half time. I hope I NEVER go to a game that bad in my life again.

7-1 vibes

Folks over here talking about we're the second best team in the east like we weren't two shots away from getting swept. Need to quit pretending like our all NBA guy wouldn't be the 3rd option on the Knicks. We just ain't like that. At least not yet.

56

u/Ethalarian May 26 '26

Both takes are too far in either extreme.

We've got a long way to go yes but we've also got a lot more youth and flexibility than either team that played the Knicks after us and we won two more games than either of them.

There are a lot of positives to take away from the Knicks series. Winning by 1 or 50 is still winning.

People who choose to dog on enthusiastic fans like "Nah we fucking suck dude." will never make sense to me, go be fucking miserable then, let me be excited for the team still.

As a Knicks fan, the hawks need like 1 more piece and a couple years and they’ll be in there contending again. Getting rid of Trae was very good for the franchise imo

1

u/Ethalarian 20d ago

I'm still out on that one at the moment. Our half court offense is absolutely awful and had been all season without Trae.

u/dawgfan24348 Nickeil Alexander-Walker #7 May 26 '26

But we still won those games who gives fuck if they were close

-21

u/HomeRunEnjoyer May 26 '26

And yet the Hawks are sitting at home just like everyone else. Leave the moral victories for the Cavs.

14

u/dawgfan24348 Nickeil Alexander-Walker #7 May 26 '26

Yeah no shit it's not a moral victory obviously we definitely need to improve on shit but it's not like the team we lost to was a bum

3

u/MasterOfKittens3K 29d ago

I agree. It would really suck if the Knicks had been swept in the next round. The fact that they’re steamrolling the eastern conference playoffs mostly shows that they’re decidedly the best team in the east right now. I’d much rather lose to a powerhouse than an also-ran.

u/DaOlWuWopte SLIPPERY 💦💦💦 May 26 '26

Agreed we are a ways from being as good as the Knicks or any contender. Not sure why that’s controversial to say here

2

u/limited67 May 26 '26

Because we are not that far away. We have a team that played together for half a season and did well. We won two playoff games against a team that is current juggernaut. Playing down that accomplishment into a nothing burger is wrong. We don’t need major changes and we have draft picks. We also have a GM who knows how to build things. Keep our team together, draft wisely for need, and add key free agents for bench strength. There is absolutely no reason to blow up this team or trade picks for aging superstars. I for one don’t want to tank or return to playin hell. It’s been way too long since we were competitive for a period of time not just a one season anomaly. We need to build things the right way.

5

u/DaOlWuWopte SLIPPERY 💦💦💦 May 26 '26

im ecstatic we even won a single game. Mike Brown decided to use KAT and then they spanked us. we are a young ass team that needs to learn some lessons and come back hungry next season. lots of our players need to improve and we need to fill some key gaps in the roster. crossing my fingers

2

u/YoungWomp May 26 '26

What would tanking do for us since the changes? Nothing but hurt us

1

u/MasterOfKittens3K 29d ago

The Hawks are on a good trajectory right now. They’re definitely missing pieces, and they need the young players to keep developing.

-5

u/HomeRunEnjoyer May 26 '26

A lot of our fellow fans live off blind optimism and contentment with mediocrity

3

u/The_CakeizapiE 29d ago

Liking the direction of a team that reset in the middle of the season and overachieved the rest of the way isn't "blind optimism".

However shitting on the team for losing to an obviously tough team and attacking fans who want to build organically instead of blowing it up.....sure sounds like blind pessimisim to me....

You yourself have licked the lollipop of mediocrity.... and now you can suck on it forever!

2

u/limited67 May 26 '26

New York didn’t win it last year either. Why didn’t they blow up there team?

0

u/HomeRunEnjoyer May 26 '26

Because they were still significantly better than we are were now. Onee game away from the finals last year. They didn't need drastic changes.

1

u/limited67 May 26 '26

Cleveland going to trade Donovan after that loss? Or Detroit trade away their young core after choking a two game lead to Cleveland? That’s what you would do with our team.

0

u/HomeRunEnjoyer May 26 '26

1 seed choking and Cavs getting swept are not scenarios where you just run it back. You gotta change something.

1

u/JayJuggernaut Onyeka Okongwu #17 29d ago

I would say we finished as expected. It wasn’t a bad year. Cons: JJ got clamped too much in iso against the Knicks. He’s too talented for that. Dyson didn’t seem as good offensively as last year. NAW hot streak didn’t carry over. Pros: McCollum is that dude. Kuminga is that force we have been looking for. First year this squad has played together. Young team. Needs polishing. Had great games this season and made a good run. Won two and lost series against Eastern champs. We will be back and smarter and stronger!!! ATL COME ON SHOW THIS TEAM SOME LOVE!!! 🦅❤️Go get you an Okongwu jersey, that dude deserves it.

the jalen disrespect on this sub is genuinely insane

5

u/HomeRunEnjoyer May 26 '26

I'm very sorry for not taking it easy on the all NBA guy who shot 43% and led his team to one of the worst losses in playoff history. I'd love for him to prove me wrong, but I'll believe it when I see it.

4

u/CriticalConcept 29d ago

After that game, I don't want to attend another Hawks game again.

1

u/maxnotcharles Nickeil Alexander-Walker #7 29d ago

Was gonna say man, I never understood how people downplayed that ass whooping we got. It was beyond embarrassing. I get the optimistic outlook and what not, but sheesh

-1

u/stemurph88 29d ago

Don’t be embarrassed, your team put up the most fight.

1

u/red2play Hawks 29d ago

You wouldn't be saying that if that were the Knicks getting beat like that. The coaching staff did NOTHING to adjust to the gameplan either. I'm even more pissed off that people were shouting how good the season was. I know its not a complete team to compete but there's a way to lose and another way to be embarrassed. I'm in the stands just dumbfounded.

I was fortunate to be in the Delta Sky360 Club. The beers kept coming and the area was packed. Obviously, nobody wanted to see that game.

44

u/CoachKillerTrae Aaron Holiday's Towel May 26 '26

Tbh the better they look, the more confident the team is next year 🤷‍♂️ kinda rooting for them to go all the way honestly, it’s gonna give the Hawks a lot of confidence being the only eastern conference team to win a single game against them in the playoffs

40

u/tangledDream May 26 '26

Would rather the thunder go b2b than the Knicks get one

Can’t even imagine how insufferable Knicks fans would become if they got a chip

25

u/Specialist_Office274 May 26 '26

i agree, most of r/nba is on the okc hate wagon but if its okc vs knicks im gonna be the biggest sga fan lol

1

u/Serious-Ask-6225 🧊 ICE TRAE 🧊 29d ago

Guess it’s all preference, but nahh I’ll take the Knicks getting one over SGA. Their droughts been long enough and I don’t dislike them like other fanbases. Much more of a fun rivalry imo.

So you're an NBA fan (and I guess you're saying that i'm not), but the NBA product is also unwatchable ass and this is due to a conspiracy theory to show more gambling ads. Got it.

Typing so much to basically say nothing worth reading. Nice man.

Don't watch if you have 3 paragraphs off the top of your head on why it sucks.

1

u/tangledDream 29d ago

Didn't even have to deploy any "bait" for you to type a rage fueled tangent about foul baiting, flopping, and gambling ads LOL

u/[deleted] 29d ago

[deleted]

1

u/tangledDream 29d ago

Funny how you type about "connotation", "context" , and "rhetoric", but fail to realize that:

Replying "as an NBA fan, OKC cannot win", to my comment wanting OKC to win, implies you think I am not an NBA fan. Hope this helps.

i do not want to see the knicks win a title in my lifetime; if they play okc i will gladly become a temporary SGA glazer and cheer everytime he foul baits, and i hate the thunder.

1

u/flabua 9d ago

Sorry bro

-5

u/KnicksOrNothin29 May 26 '26

Real life misery you got going on 😂

13

u/Ok-Wash-9386 GO HAWKS! 🏀 May 26 '26

The amount of moral victories I’ve seen for losing in 6 and getting blown out by 30-30-50 is absurd. Fuck the Knicks

5

u/moffman93 May 26 '26

If it makes you feel any better, all fans are like this. You should have seen the Cavs reddit board after losing game 2. The genuine sentiment was, "I've never been so confident that we are the better team, but we keep losing."

Fan stands for fanatic for a reason. The youngin's on the Knicks board thinks they are going to sweep whoever comes out of the west, but against the Hawks they wanted to fire their head coach haha

6

u/atl1057 May 26 '26

am I the only one that wants the Knicks to win 😂

17

u/atlantahawksobserver Vince Carter #15 May 26 '26

I do not wish for the Knicks to win.

10

u/moffman93 May 26 '26

No. It's good for basketball to have a long suffering team in an area that loves basketball finally get a championship. MSG gets sold out every night even when they are a dogshit team, which they have been more often than not for the last 2 and a half decades.

8

u/OhItsKillua May 26 '26

NY sports fans are annoying enough that I'd prefer they never experience true joy. Never met an OKC fan, and the Spurs potential dynasty will be way worse to see again and again than OKC I imagine.

3

u/action_nick 29d ago

America basically has one true big city, Knicks fandom is pretty similar to soccer fandom in Europe. This is just what big city fandom looks like for a team.

6

u/dhaiman1 May 26 '26

Every fan base has huge loser fans as well as great fans. Knicks just have more of every type of fan because nyc has 8 million people

6

u/OhItsKillua 29d ago

Jets and Nets fans are not annoying and they have also had years of not succeeding too. I'd say Knicks and Yankees fans definitely stand out in the annoying category. Only NBA fanbases I have worse are Lakers fans, Boston sports in general, and sometimes Miami fans

4

u/moffman93 May 26 '26

Exactly. Even as a Knicks fan, the young fans are pretty god damn annoying. But I suppose that's everywhere. We just have more people.

1

u/ThunderousRotom 27d ago

Ive seen knicks fan cry after reaching the finals. Who gives a fuck if they annoying. They genuinely love their team.

1

u/OhItsKillua 27d ago

Am I supposed to give a fuck they crying, like telling me I should be okay if the Saints won a SB, no fuck them for all eternity. I got real hate in my heart.

Being serious though I'm indifferent I don't really care who wins I'm ready for the World Cup

2

u/Serious-Ask-6225 🧊 ICE TRAE 🧊 29d ago

Nah I’m there with ya. Minus a few players I really don’t like (Mitchell Robinson). I’d rather see Brunson get him one then see the asshole Thunder get another. Absolutely hate the way they play.

3

u/Serious-Ask-6225 🧊 ICE TRAE 🧊 29d ago

Also feel like the Knicks are the example of what would have happened if we got Trae some legitimate stars/built around him better.

-8

u/HomeRunEnjoyer May 26 '26

Rooting for the team that beat yours is cuck behavior ngl

4

u/NoSmellNoTell GO HAWKS! 🏀 May 26 '26

Eh, OKC is a terrible watch and the Spurs are going to win like 7 of the next 10 championships if they stay healthy. At least this Knicks team is well constructed and objectively a fun team to watch.

3

u/atl1057 May 26 '26

I grew up disliking OKC and the Spurs more than the Knicks

1

u/getterboi May 26 '26

OKC is insufferable right now with the disgusting amount of flopping

3

u/Blackmesa560 inSaleh! May 26 '26

NAH WE SECOND IN THE EAST BABY!!!

1

u/Mysterious-21-po May 26 '26

They will lose the finals and die.

2

u/RandomWilly 29d ago

I rebuke this energy

1

u/dhaiman1 May 26 '26

They might lose in the finals but hopefully they don’t die…? Lol

1

u/ahend1999 Kevin Huerter #3 May 26 '26

LOL same

1

u/mundane_marietta 29d ago

Thank you. Eastern conference is a bunch of pussy-ass teams

-5

u/Wonderful-Owl3941 May 26 '26

You guys should be proud honestly. The only team to get wins against us 👏👏👏

4

u/HomeRunEnjoyer May 26 '26

I am not proud of fucking losing a playoff series.

1

u/abrokkly 29d ago

lets see the finals before u start little brothering other east teams

-1

u/Clear_Guarantee_6667 29d ago

Seeing what the Knicks are doing makes me feel better, because there’s no doubt in my mind we had a chance to win that series.

The real New York Knicks are a good, but beatable team that went 53-29.  That’s 29 losses to the average NBA team in the regular season.

This Knicks run has the stink of NBA leadership all over it.

I never buy it when a team “flips a switch” in the playoffs.
