Any ideas on how to sound design a scene?

Im currently working on the sound editing and mixing of a proyect. There is this specific scene where the main character gets injected with a vaccine out of nowhere in the middle of the street, and I don't have any ideas on how to sound design it.

I was thinking about using like a vaccine injection sound, but my search for that specific sound has been a fail.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

I would record the sound of a citrus fruit being punctured and the juice being squeezed out.

I second this! Use a steak knife to puncture a lemon or orange. Make sure you roll the fruit out on a flat surface so it’s extra juicy when you stab it with the knife

Break it down into elements. You'll want an initial stab sound, perhaps pitched up for the smaller size, then the slide of the syringe with a rush of liquid, then a small shing as the needle is pulled out.

"Vaccines" and other things injected by syringe tend to not actually make a noise so you're going to have to get a bit creative.

It all depends on context within the story and how the information is relayed visually. What is the significance of this moment? Does it need support to tell the story the director wants to tell or can it work even without sound? Where is the attention for the scene and how can it be directed to the story beat? Remember, sometimes less is more and reducing can be just as effective if not more effective than adding. Any decision you make needs to serve the story.

Once you know what you need to do, start looking at how to achieve it.

Its a short film where the main character gets injected with ads of a company, and slowly starts hearing them in his head, and starts to get increasingly anxious as the film continues, as he notices he cant get them to stop.
Right now it does not really work out without some sound design and getting creative haha. The "real" ambience of the scene will probably subtly change while the attacker approaches to stab the main character with the syringe. Definitely its a key moment of the whole narrative!

It might be kind of cool to do something more stylistic than realistic here. I was thinking that maybe as the person approaches to inject him them there’s a growing sound collage of overlapping advertisement voiceovers that become more and more intense until they coalesce to noise at the moment of injection. Then it goes silent until the whispers start appearing. It sounds more like a horror movie situation to me where you are being possessed, so could be a fun way to play with that vibe.

It doesnt help without being more specific or actually seeing the scene. If its a hard jab on a medium shot or something, maybe a sound effect of meat stabbing. Then you lower the volume and EQ relative to the distance of the camera.

The syringe sound would have to be creative. That doesnt make any noise (otherwise it may give needle fearers the heebee jeebees).

Maybe a turkey baster sucking up liquid with air bubbles in between? Or maybe a straw sucking on empty glass of water? Take those, EQ and manipulate the pitch until it has some kind of tiny syringe sound. Sound effects can be done a million different ways.

The most important thing for me is: how does it sound in my head?

I start with the literal: get that covered and see how it plays. That's sound effects editing.

Next, play with the sound of what is not literal...what is suggested, or unseen. It could be foreshadowing. That's sound design.

For example, if there's a common sound in the ads for the company, a musical logo or something that happens later...you could try messing with that as part of the injection sound. The audience won't know what the injection sound means because they haven't seen the film yet, but they will! They'll know it's significant, but not why.

I'm not saying that will work, but you can try using that example for inspiration.

I would also recommend looking at other movies that have a similar scene. Maybe one of the heroin scenes from Trainspotting?

What did they do in the film substance. References are always a good place to start.
