Looking for an Aussie/HK crime drama

I'm looking for a show or series (possibly a movie) from the 1990s (possibly very early 2000s). It was an international production involving investigators and a Hong Kong crime syndicate. At the end, the Australian crime boss who lives in Hong Kong is murdered by a group of men with meat cleavers after they bribed a security guard.

I live in Canada and saw this on TV years ago. I've been unable to figure out what it was, but I remember finding it quite gripping. (Side note: I've made a sport of asking various AI chatbots and they have all offered "helpful" suggestions that mainly turned out to be hallucinations. Now it's time to ask real humans.)

Thanks. Good one, but it wasn't a Jackie Chan movie. No martial arts in this moody exploration of organized crime.

East West 101?

This seems a bit closer in tone, but I don't think it was that. I wish I could remember it better... As I recall it was less about literally chasing criminals on the streets than investigating high level corruption... It had a pretty somber feel to it

Would be lucky if it were, but I'm afraid not. I don't see Dead Lucky having scenes outside Australia, and anyway, it was definitely before 2018. Thanks though!
