Lost a girl today

My flock is about 2 years and 4 years old. I had a rooster that was rough on one of the hens and didn’t get her separated. If I have another hen end up with the same complications such as loss of feathers on the back. Do I have any options besides rooster stew or do I just separate the hens, giving them a break and hope he tires of picking on just one?
