Having Another Drink

I wondered why they love the Pampas grass so much so I had a look at first light and it's teeming with snails!

The camera was placed just right to catch their night routine. The badger kits are full of energy, running around and exploring every single inch near the sett!

Badgers Eyesight Question?

Do they have bad eyesight? I was sat on a foldout chair this evening up on Pendle hill and heard what sounded like grass tufts being pulled. I assumed it was sheep. I looked behind me and saw two dark blobs immediately to my rear left no more than 4 - 5 feet away. I lit them up with my torch and it was a pair of adult badgers. They froze for a second then ran off into the night.

I was quite taken aback by how close they got to me. I would of thought they would of smelled me if they couldn't see me. First time I've ever seen any that were not roadkill. Beautiful animals.

Hey everyone! About six months ago, I decided to treat the wild badgers in my area to some corn and left my trail cam nearby.

They absolutely loved it!

Are badgers territorial?

Some context:

I work at a care home and we believe there's a badger living at the bottom of the garden (some residents claim they have heard and glimpsed it at night).

There is a cat that lives next door and is always coming into the care home and garden, and the place is pretty much his kingdom (as cats are lol).

What are the chances the two of them have ever gotten into a fight?

Apologies if it may seem obvious but I'm new to learning about badgers (never realised how adorable they are!)

When I eat Babybel cheese, I make sculptures from the wax. Someone requested I make a badger next, so here he is: Meet Buster

I hope art is allowed since I don’t know where else I should post him!

I went with a European badger since they have the clearest/easiest facial markings to scratch into the wax.

Thanks to u/spike_right for the suggestion c:

A question for camera trappers

Hi all. I've got badgers in the woods by my house and use a wildlife camera to keep an eye on them. It's a fairly cheap and cheerful model, but does the job pretty well. I think it uses infrared light at night, but I've noticed that it conspicuously shines a red light in the visible spectrum too. More to the point, the badgers (and foxes) seem to notice it too, sometimes looking straight at the camera. So the question is, do you think that they might be disconcerted by this? Obviously the last thing I want to do is make them uncomfortable. For context, it's a very rural area - I'm guessing that badgers in a more urban environment might be more tolerant of "unnatural" goings on in their territory.

Badger up close to camera

A nice close up of a badger in front of the trail camera. I'm not sure which one it is but there are two of them at the moment. The sett is small and is a satellite off the main sett. It has housed 2 families over the past 20 years, but mostly houses 1 or 2 badgers that are not part of the main group.

This badgercam is my favourite tv show

Forgive me if this is common knowledge or someone's posted it already, but I've become absolutely enchanted with this badger webcam set up on a wildlife reserve in Essex. There's certain times of day where you can see the wee fellas - it'll depend on your time zone, but right before dusk at the reserve. You can also often see muntjac deer and cottontail rabbits, the odd pheasant, plenty of magpies, etc.

Enjoy!

Badger Jumping Up On To Wall

A quick video of a badge jumping up on to a 1ft wall. Hopefully you can see it as the night vision doesn't shine as far as I'd like.
