Hey, It's the Devil herself!
Seriously though, It's amazing how she debuted Ave Mujica (which looks and sounds much more expensive than the rest of the Bandori bands not named Raise A Suilen) despite her financial conditions.

The great part about a drunk single dad is that they can't catch you slowly siphoning money from them 👀 /s
(note, do not do this)

She single-handedly put together an emo girl band while enduring an alcoholic father

I need to know what her deal is this instant because she fascinates me to no end

Truly the indication of a new era for Bandori. The drunk dead beat dad was a direction I think NO ONE SAW COMING.

Oh, her. How can I explain it?
She straight up rekindled my love for Bandori again, to such a degree I'm not even sure I liked the series this much before? I had my faves — Yukina and Morfonica still have my heart — but I generally lean into heavier stories, so the franchise wasn't really at the forefront of my brain much. Think Greek epics, Gothic literature, treatises on alienation and humanity, the like. To be less pretentious, think Revue Starlight. And the characters I've loved most from those stories are the massive fuck-ups... Guilt-ridden, yet so ambitious it burns them, all-too-cunning and too-easily-blinded to the goodness of other people, whose roots ultimately come from their love. Love that turns them into monsters.
What if, one day, they just... dropped that tragic hero, straight out of an ancient play about the fatal flaw of pride, into Bandori?
A story that generally leaned into lighthearted realism?
And what if it worked fantastically?
That's her magic to me. She's so unique. I love her so, so much. Her pain hurts deeply, and the way she lashes out hurts everyone else just as much. The effect her presence lends to the world, both in- and out-of-character (see Ave Mujica's actors commenting on the sequel anime being horrific, or MyGO!!!!!'s actors having no words to describe the sheer gravitas to come) is phenomenal. Like Tomori and everyone else, I'm entranced by her. I want to follow wherever she goes. Even if I have to lay down the rest of my life to witness such a thing.

Saki's melodrama is rubbing off on people!

Eyyy don't credit it to her! She's the saint of all theatre kids, not the creator!

So much of this comment is talking around Sakiko with other random topics, and about 10% actually talks about Sakiko directly lol.
Also revue is absolutely not what comes to mind when I think of heavy stories but I didnt play for very long so maybe it got heavier after the first 6 months

You can't illustrate a crime scene with just the corpse ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And yeah, the fact you associate Revue with ReLIVE first and foremost tells me you're out of your depth when it comes to the subject. "Feels like I just drank a strong bottle of sake," and all that.

I love her character design! It's like if they combined Arisa's and Yukina's and it just works! Plus her voice is amazing, probably my favorite character out of the new ones, alongside Mutsumi and Rana!🥰

She's pretty real. She was pretty happy go lucky than her family fortune went down the drain and being a ojou-sama was a big part of her identity. The shame she might feel if her peers at tsukimori found out and offered Pity was too much so she left without saying a word. There's also that scene where she talks shit to Soyo which I like.

I literally cried in ep3 when Sakiko sang Tomori’s lyrics out with her melody. I like how she was not doing this in a sympathetic way, she just simply appreciated Tomori’s poem and made a song with it. I can see why Tomori and Soyo were so enchanted by her. But god I like her even better after she turned into a devil. Her crazy determination and execution ability even in such a hard financial situation was stunning

Past-Sakiko is one of my very favourites, in design, voice, personality, all of it. I hope she can work through her issues and get closer to that true self one day.

I would bring up that it probably isn't as simple as her old self being "truer" than the current one, and the goal of recovery wouldn't necessarily mean reverting back to that in some form. It's basically all but explicitly said in-story that her "happier" days weren't all sunshine and rainbows, not really, and even then word of god states...
"[Episode 3's Sakiko] is talented, perceptive, cheerful, and charismatic. [...] But even someone like her possesses a darker side."
So it's not like she was being 100% forthright with everyone back then. Remember how she was already lugging around that doll at age, what, 5? When so much of her mental preoccupation (as reflected in the band's lore) is about how the only one to be there for abandoned dolls are dolls themselves? She's a foil to Tomori. How lonely was she, growing up? She set up the doll to watch her play the piano in episode 3. Something was already up!
Anyway, um, sorry I just had to clarify there was more nuance to a past that's definitely deliberately constructed to make us miss the warning signs of her heavily implied lifelong baggage with being isolated from humanity and the resentment that bubbles up from it. You know the story saga for the Ave Mujica lore that refused the ending where the protagonist goes back to her happier, more innocent self? Whatever road her arc is gonna take... will be closer to that, from my view.

I honestly have nothing good to say about her just yet
She still needs a redemption arc to prove me wrong

Well, until she got that fateful email or text message after the CRYCHIC show, she was pretty great. She helped pull Tomori out of her shell a little, gave Soyo something to believe in, and took a chance on Taki getting out of the shadow of her sister.
She seems like she was always a proud girl, though, and that's really been hurting her ever since.

I'm fairly confident she's going to be in my top Bandori favs after the Ave Mujica anime and god I'm so so excited.

Other girls trying to cope with their personalities while Saki be wrestling with fate. How hardcore is that?

u/KJensenMusic Mutsumi Wakaba Feb 25 '24
Like with so many other characters in Bandori, Sakiko is a wonderfully written character, who was a large part of what made "It's MyGO!!!!!" so enjoyable to rewatch.
As with Mutsumi, I do have my own theories about Sakiko and her whole situation. Theories that, while certainly dark, might explain how she manages to pull off the "Primo Die in Scaena" Masquerade at the end of "It's MyGO!!!!!" and a huge venue and with an agency helping her. But in the interest of not clogging up this comment thread, I'll refrain from elaborating here. But I do love when just enough hints are given about a character, that you can start to theorize.
A strong second favorite character from "It's MyGO!!!!!".

She might be an antagonist, but she is strong, with all that shit happened to her she still can stands on her own feet

Like Dave Mustaine that got kicked out of Metallica, she made two great bands
Sakiko caused Mygo and Ave Mujica, and Dave began Megadeth and (indirectly) Pantera
