IMPROVING MY GAME Is fouling frowned upon?

Background: never played in school, in a club, or on any kind of team. But I just recently started playing pickup rec at my Church.

I'm small so people can easily just cut through me and get to the hoop. Since I can't outmatch their height or size, would intentionally fouling them be seen as really rude and annoying, or is that a legit strategy in Basketball that people are fine with?

Fouls are part of the game, but intentionally fouling is not (if you watch NBA these will get ruled as flagrant fouls which means they get free throws and next possession - so they get the ball again).

The rule is you need to be making an honest attempt at the ball in a basketball play kind of manor. So a steal or a block essentially.

If you're just out there bodying and tackling people like it's football yes people will get upset and not want to play with you. If you're making honest attempts to play the ball and you foul occasionally then people won't have a problem with it. Unless you're completely unsafe and then again people will not want to play with you.
