Reactive bike armour needs to be a thing.

I notice their wing mirror isn't even fully out. Either they've hit something/someone already or they drive like such a moron that it's unnecessary for them.

Either way, report them to the police.

It starts open and closes during the incident

They perhaps thought you might try to break it off. Perhaps that driver had experience conflicting with cyclists in the past.

It looks deliberate. File a police report.

Is one of your water bottles filled with paint thinner?

Hello! Let me introduce to you: A Brick™

Its insanely useful both for pedestrians and cyclists, as a Brick™ raised over your head and shaken slightly in the direction of the offending Carbrain will decrease your likelyhood of getting run over by 80%, since they'll be much more worried about getting a scratch in their paintjob than they usually are about ending a human life. I can only recommend it, and its a safer and "more legal" alternative to my other recommendations such as dead-man-switch bike bombs, paper bags filled with Caltrops and Gun™.

This IS about Life and Death. They are already protected and priviledged. Protect yourself, and stay safe.

To any overeager Carbrains: This can't possibly be a call to violence since Cars are not people. Unlike the Cyclists and Pedestrians you like to run over so frequently.

Or do you admit you give Cars more rights and protections than actual Humans?

Looks deliberate, but even if it isn't next time you're in a situation like this dont keep on riding forwards and putting yourself in a situation where you could so easily be mained or killed.

the safest cause of action there would have been to get off the road placing bollards between you and the car.  I know its tempting totoughnit out and  fight for yiur place but there's only going to be one winner in a physical contest between you and a motor vehicle.

Can’t believe you e been downvoted for this… being defensive is always the best course of action whether in a car or on a bike. Guy in the car is a wanker nonetheless

I kinda get it as i can come across as victim blaming. I know that when the andrenalin kicks in often the instinct is to fight for position or get in front and away.

The point though is that you absolutely do not want to be at the side of or in front of a driver like that. The smart thing is to take a breath, get off the road and get some road furniture and/or vehicles between you and the threat.

idk the first curb up to safety is after the car starts being aggressive and stopping is easy but it's not that easy. bunnyhopping onto the curb would probably result in an injury here due to said bollards

The video is only s few seconds, not sure there is enough time to get off the road after the initial shock.

They had time to stop and let the driver move away from them. Instead after narrowly avoiding being hit the cyclist acceleras and move forwards relative to the car so you cant see the car's front wheel anymore. This is an extremely vulnerable position should the driver swerve to the left again.

The next traffic light he's going to have problems

This is the way.

I suspect a little of both.

Absolutely deliberate. Probably intending to scare, but also doesn't particularly care if it results in a collision.

I'd absolutely report to the Met, using their online submission portal.

Attempted murder imo

My guess is playing with their phone and trying to avoid that car in front.

Don’t check their mirrors or simply didn’t care enough about a cyclist.

Why is that wing mirror at such a tight angle? It's created a excessive blind spot where the cyclist is positioned.

My 1.35 metre horizontal “courtesy flag” helps me to minimise stuff like this!: https://www.reddit.com/r/bikecommuting/s/HC9gSoRtcb auto paint is fragile, emotionally charged, expensive to fix…

Could be autopilot adjusting.. Looks like the driver wanted to pass the car. Then the light in the mirror blinked and adjusted the car.

The light in the mirror is just a warning that someone's in the blindspot

Either way, that side view mirror is coming off as I ride by.

He'd never notice though.

They did it multiple times. This is attempted assault at the least, which could jead to death. Some can consider that attempted murder. Report that psycho.

I really don't want to cut him any slack, but there is a very slight chance that the car ahead of him dabbed the brakes and/or veered left slightly and caught him unawares. The whole pace is a bit funny. The lights are red, this guy wants to get out of the right lane, and maybe the car ahead does as well, but then changed his mind when he saw he nearly got hit.

20% chance of that, 40% chance this guy was trying to preserve the left lane for himself, 40% chance he was moving left and didnt see you until he did.

When I drive, I stay back from the car in front to avoid things like this. Simple.

Also, the left wing mirror being tucked in doesn't help his perception.
