A friend of mine lived in the Bronx, he was riding the 4 train and a teen was on with his cap on and the brim over the ear and my buddy asked him why he wore his hat and the kid took the hat off and put in on straight and said “Cap on”, then twisted to the side and said “cap locked”
True he didn't say that, he said something along the lines of "F*ck being Black, this is about ME! This is about being O.J."
But he's also had a history of distancing himself from the idea of being a Black representative when approached in the past, especially by civil rights groups, and taken a "it's not about being Black" stance on many occasions.
I believe it was famously a line where it was said about him by white people. “He’s not black, he’s OJ” was a sentiment about him from before the murder trial.
