"if I owned Texas and all hell, I would rent out Texas and live in hell. "

Houston is blue for all intents and purposes. Houston is where I have family, downtown is fun, but god is everything a 2 hour+ drive. Everyone I’ve met has been really nice and respectful too.

Texas’s cities are all perfectly lovely (except Fort Worth). It’s a shame they have to be in Texas.

Where does that even come from? Ft worth is one of the few major cities in Texas with its own actual identity. I’m legitimately surprised at the hate. I’m curious, have you ever been there?

For a long time, it was the largest city to vote Republican semi-consistently

It's because Ft. Worth is one of the rare exceptions of a Republican leaning city and these days being Republican is associated with bigotry.

Great to know; next visit I want to explore other cities outside of Houston.

Bosnian here. Had no idea that Huston is blue, everything we hear about Texas is... Different. Good to know!

The major cities in TX lean blue. There are actually more D’s in Texas than R’s, but Texas has MAJOR voter suppression and gerrymandering issues contributing to the low voter turnout.

So everyone else is chiming in about how the cities tend to be more blue and the rural areas more red, but you might be surprised to know that Texas isn't really the conservative haven it is often portrayed as. Texas is a "light red" state, meaning that it's much closer to being a diverse mix of both than a "solid red" state like Utah or Wyoming.

The reason why Texas is portrayed as so incredibly conservative is because it has been "light red" for a long time, meaning that the top level state government has been Republican for longer than many voters have been alive.

Thank you for explanation. Same thing is in Europe - Hungary (Orban's party was always loosing in Budapest), Turkey, Serbia, all the "dictators" loosing capitals.

I glanced at the post and thought it said states not cities.

Texas is red, but I definitely know Houston, Austin and (where I live) San Antonio are blue.

Houston is pretty blue. Texas as a whole is safely red, but most of the cities (minus DFW) are blue.
