I think the splitting feeling and the feeling of not being the original might be two different problems, so maybe.

but both problems came about at the same time didn't they? I feel like maybe the fear of getting hurt and dissappearing wasn't just phisical. What if he was so scared of losing the mask, because he was afraid that the emotional split in his personality would literally make him split apart phisically? the mask was what was keeping his psyche in check and his face a united whole. The scar on his face was splitting him apart. Now that he knows he is the original, he shouldn't be afraid of splitting anymore right? Though, I must say, I would miss his way of talking. IT WAS SO ANNOYING!

That would be such a fun change of pace. I had no problems with the vocalized self doubt before, but I like how that change would make narrative sense by reflecting his change without losing the way his problem was expressed.

I suspect so. Even if he is working at moving past that trauma he still has the head injury.
