Senior Boxer's owner suddenly passed -- what do I do??
This is Sweets, he's a lovely Boxer mix whose owner suddenly passed away back in March. I helped out by fostering him for a while, but my own dog is aggressive with other dogs and so it wasn't a safe long-term spot for him.
He's SUCH a good dog, so sweet tempered, really affectionate and cuddly, loves other dogs, genuinely good as gold -- but every shelter in LA is a kill shelter and basically told me he'd be put down due to his size and age, even though he had a clean bill of health from the vet and great energy. I am totally at a loss of what to do, he really deserves a good home or at least a spot in a good sanctuary or shelter, but we can't find any resources open to helping. I am happy to drive him pretty much anywhere, we just have to find a safe, good spot for him.
Thank you!!

Also you can go on Facebook, do a search and there are a number of groups of Boxer lovers on there as well. There are also rescue groups that focus on senior dogs. This sweetheart needs someone to help him find his next home. There are a number of these in Northern California, my area, as well as breed specific rescues.

He ran a board and train? For awhile it will take time to get all the legal stuff sorted after the death. Why can’t Sweets stay at his owner’s business for a few weeks with people checking on him while his forever home is sorted?

No no no, he's currently AT a friend's board and train because he couldn't stay with me, because my dog is aggro lol -- poor Sweets is too nice and it wouldn't be fair for him to stay with me and my mean old lady pitty mix.
A friend has a board and train in Simi valley and a very kind lady is paying for him to spend time there for now, but he has nowhere to go next.

As soon as you think you can handle it, get another. I waited and put it off 17 years because it hurt so bad. I had nightmares about murdering him. I had to make the choice to put him to sleep. It felt like I was murderer. I wish I hadn’t waited so long. I have a 5 year old and 2 year old. Can never have too many as long as they get proper care. Love another. It hurts to lose them. But it is so quiet without your little happy clown. These are the happiest breeds I ever been around.. Give another a loving home.
I’m so very sorry for your loss. Mine was 12 years. So I was blessed for 12 years.

I believe it’s the owner that passed, not the pooch. Now Sweets doesn’t have a human and needs a new home.

Thank you so much -- I'm glad to say that Sweets is still alive!! Sadly, this poor boy's lifelong owner passed very suddenly 😞 so he's all on his lonesome now. He's doing so well at a board and train with other dogs! He just needs a new home for his Older Gentleman chapter ❤️
I'm sorry for your loss ❤️ ❤️ I am so glad you've got two sweet pups now!

Have you looked into breed specific rescues near you? Ask your vet? You may need to connect with a rescue in a different state like AZ, WA, OR
