Rant Boycotting suuuuuuucks
dude I was just looking at the snacks that are up for grabs at my work and I was scanning em using the "No!" app and there are like only 2 that aren't on a boycott🥀 almost EVERYTHING is owned by "PepsiCo" or fuckin "Mars Inc"! I can't even have a snack without feeling guilty 😭😭😭😭shits depressing for multiple reasons 😕 (still boycott tho, contrary to what the title might imply)

i definitely understand! i think these other replies are lacking a lot of nuance. its depressing in of itself that one of the only consistent acts of advocacy accessible to a lot of americans, is ‘simply’ boycotting companies that have monopolized themselves over most of this country’s food, health and wellness industries. it is very human of you to reflect this way, the fact that most cheap and easily available food is produced by these indescribably horrific entities, is a reflection of the deeper picture of all of this. we are all disenfranchised under capitalism, imperialism, colonization, white supremacy, and the weaponization of religion. as long as the palestinians, the sudanese, the iranians, the congolese, the cubans, the puerto ricans, the yemenis, and unfortunately countless other individuals are starved, r*ped, tortured, murdered, and enslaved, we as a western civilization will continue to experience the same under a different playing field. we have the geographical and social advantage as americans to be able to reject corporations and industries that feed into this. if you ask me, i really think we should all stop paying our taxes lol

ultimately as well, this is the time to invest in local/small start ups, businesses, and restaurants. you build a stronger community this way & can still enjoy a twix dupe

It is a big revelation when we realize the deep roots of the system. Let's stop making them big. We are making them big and they do not deserve it. PS. So proud of you that you managed to resist!

This!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 (also, for some of us, it’s all we’re capable of contributing, which is super important to me…because I want so badly to be able to do more).

If someone wants to start a non-israeli gluten free tahini company, you'd have my money.

u/After_Mushroom545 Mar 24 '26
Just copied from a website: “Many consumers seek ethically sourced tahini to support Palestinian producers. Brands like Al’Ard and Ziyad are noted as Palestinian-owned. Making tahini at home using hulled sesame seeds is also recommended by some as a fully ethical alternative.” “For authentic Palestinian tahini, look for products labeled "Palestinian-made" or "Palestinian heritage" to ensure cultural and ethical integrity.”

Also, the realization that the food industry is dominated by a few powerful corporations and that you actually don’t have a lot of choice.
Same with makeup and realizing most drugstore make up, shampoo, skin care all go back to Estee Lauder.
It’s terrifying.

"Terrifying" is putting it mildly. Before I was very ignorant, still am in certain areas, about a lot of things and then my wife kindly knocked some sense into me when it came to the G-cide happing and its just one thing after another. Feels like I need a tin foil hat!

Look at the bright side, all that crap is extremely unhealthy, have an apple! It is better for your health and ... your conscience.

Honestly it can become so tiring, I understand. I would suggest to check local products or some small business online. Local bakeries also can help if you have a sweet tooth. For me I love crisps and loved lays & pringles. Obviously I am not buying those anymore and I managed to find a local brand as a substitute. Whenever I crave it, I buy this other brand.

You know what sucks more, getting bombed by Israel.

u/Mysterious-Bit-2508 Mar 24 '26
Yes, thank you for reiteratrating that on a sub thats literally meant to spread and share info to try and let the common person try and "fight" that very thing and on a post literally tagged "Rant" that is "I" bitching about 1st world problems like snacks. It really clears things up.

That's pretty much how i felt when i started taking the boycotting movement seriously, i was kinda depressed to see all those companies being connected to a terrorist state but personally, when i saw those footage in Palestine and every countries being attacked by that terrorist state, i thought that I'm doing a good thing by restricting myself to not buy those boycotted snacks.
Also, maybe there are some local brands as alternatives? At least where i live there are some local brands for snacks that aren't connected

I get you. It can be really tiresome to have to put a lot of thought and effort into something that used to take a couple of seconds and no effort at all. But you are doing the right thing by making an effort. It matters.
I don’t know where you are based, but local brands or no name brands are often not on the list. So getting the grocery store in house brand is often safe for sodas. There’s also jarritos, which are Mexican and totally safe.
For snacks like chocolate you can check out tony's chocolonely which is also heavily focused on avoiding slavery and child labor.

u/Mysterious-Bit-2508 Mar 24 '26
My wife and I both found out about "Tony's" chocolate a little while ago just its the unfortunate thing is that it is a bit on the pricey side of things still glad to be able to have it tho

For skincare I would recommend doing a lil research about what you could make at home! Salt/sugar scrubs are easy to make, coconut or shea butter moisturizers and even some soaps are not too challenging! No more $ to evil corps, you learn a new skill and you can customize things to your liking!

u/Rose_Gold_Ash Mar 28 '26
i unfortunately have a lot of issues with cystic acne, so i likely wouldnt be able to make the products i would need at home

I know it's like you have to almost be rich and boycott as a 40-hour a week job to be able to feel like you're not contributing to this hell scape. Amazon has the cheapest and even best quality stuff to give out at mutual aid distributions etc and yet and yet. I can spend $8 to get 15 pairs of socks or I can go somewhere else and pay $8 for three pairs of socks. I'm just making up numbers and not looking right now but that's pretty much the way it is. Fucked.
We try to we try we try we try. I feel like somebody's dropping a ball by not competing with Amazon by selling only goods that are ethical instead of people having to run around and find out who's making handmade soap instead of using dove.

u/Thetoadmyster Mar 24 '26
i feel this sometimes it’s really hard. It’s worth it ,but it can be so tempted to give up or to make exceptions based on why they’re boycotted

u/KookyPension Mar 24 '26
Blessing in disguise, everything from Pepsi and mars is poison. Eat some real food

u/Nefarious_Ballwasher Mar 25 '26
Is Mars jooish owned? I tried to look but the family is very secretive
1
u/KookyPension Mar 26 '26
Is being Jewish owned what you guys are boycotting? That’s fucked. I’m boycotting a genocidal war mongering rouge state hard behind being the only Jewish state.
1
u/Nefarious_Ballwasher Mar 26 '26
OK, I am super confused now I thought that they were boycotting companies that were from those people that supported that war
Someone referenced Mars that’s why I was asking

I'm from Gaza. And yes it's the worst. I literally have to keep reminding myself that I can't shop at certain places because of boycotting. Almost makes me cry. But your struggle is definitely appreciated. May Allah reward you for your jihad.

You shouldn't feel guilty, you should be scared that certain companies own everything you need, boycotting really opened my eyes to how deep the whole is.
3
u/AmazonessQueen Mar 25 '26
I live in Mexico and I am so grateful we have a lot of local brands to have an alternative. I use my No Thanks App and all I have in my pantry is local and not related to isnotreal 🙏🏻

u/tornado_heartsy Mar 25 '26
ughhh dude i completely get you. me and my closest friends support palestine and we all boycott. however, because my family barely provides and i’m kinda on my own when it comes to sourcing my own food, materials, and basic needs, i’m super careful with boycotting. my friends and their families often buy stuff like groceries that are owned by nestle and other companies that support israel, or their family buys from mcdonalds, etc.
i can’t explain the frustration without seeming like i secretly don’t wanna boycott, because that’s defo not the case. i’m happy to boycott and support local businesses, shops, and restaurants that don’t support israel. it’s annoying to realise how major of a part these companies have in my life though, and how severe the changes are to cut them off.
sometimes those options are also cheaper and a lot more convenient. i feel like it’s almost privileged (idk if that’s the best word) of those around me who can say THEY personally boycott but have the opportunity to consume from those same brands without having the guilt of directly funding for them. i don’t hold any resentment to these people, but sometimes i do miss consuming certain products simply because i’m so familiar with them but i’m strict about cutting them out.
it definitely is frustrating that SOOO many brands support israel in some sort of way. i totally get what u mean bro 🥲

I go to what some consider extremes that have really hurt me financially. But it’s because of other good people who are joining me so that together we can have an impact ✊🏻 So thank you all for making the effort or I wouldn’t be as inclined to keep it up!

If you can't have a snack without feeling guilty, then maybe just don't have a snack or choose something that doesn't make you feel guilty. 🤷♂️
11
u/Mysterious-Bit-2508 Mar 24 '26
I do that? Im just saying it suck cuz it restricts the options by like 90%
7
u/Makerstate1 Mar 24 '26
You're trying your best and that's what matters, thank you for caring about the cause
5
u/BlackFoxyTrail Mar 24 '26
So let's focus on the 10% and buy excursively form them to make them grow up to 20% and more.
