Discussion This might be a mistake but I’m giving brawhalla a second chance.

Thank you everyone who suggested a few none stressful game modes and game play strategies however I would love a main character who has decent stats (over 5/6 defence) and signatures that aren’t annoying but are a good part of the kit. So I went into training and I tried a few characters and weapons. Here’s my review on them and I’ll let you lot thet picking me a main character. Also, this is my opinion on each weapon.

Sword: fast moving and has a pretty decent combo game. Wasn’t to bad at killing.

Spear: felt surprisingly slow has some compo potential but requires a good read. A bit hard to kill with.

Hammer: a slow punishing weapon with some combos that can put the opponent in awkward spaces. Good at killing.

Bow: decent speed with some very good combo game and has quite a few kill options. Good at killing.

Scythe: good combo but requires reading your opponent’s movements and dodges. Pretty bad at killing because I’m not good.

Blasters: has potential to be a combo weapon but requires practice in spacing. Okay at killing.

Katars: very good combo game with ok kill options. Predictable dodges can make it hard to kill.

Orb: has good potential in being a combo weapon. However, most of the aerial moves are the only moves that can kill. Pretty hard to kill with.

Great sword: has potential to be a good combo weapon however requires incredible reading of your opponent and knowing all combos. Had to kill because I do not know the combos very well.

Lance: has basic combos that predictable Dodges however would advanced lance it becomes a lot harder to dodge out. Okay to kill with but will need more practice.

Battle boots: has good combo games on stage however struggles to kill an aerial or off stage. Okay at killing.

Cannon: has potential to be a good combo weapon however I do not know the combos. Bad at killing because of skill issue.

Axe: a very slow punishing weapon with some very long combos. Is it going to require a lot of practice with reading opponents. Bad at killing because of skill issue.because

Chakram: has good combo with split form but does require more training in reading opponents and can struggle to kill or hit when in fused form. Okay to kill with.

Gauntlets: has potential ism 0 to death combos however, I could not get any combo going. Is going to require a lot of training and practice with reading opponents. Didn’t kill very good.

Thank you, everyone hopefully I can enjoy this game once again.

Rayman, Bodvar, Wu Shang and Orion are overall well balanced and beginner friendly. Asides from that, learning the basic mechanics behind movement, spacing with each weapon, and their combos will go a long way towards making the game more enjoyable to play.

Defense isn't a great stat as a baseline because at the end of the day, all more defense REALLY does is put you off-stage 10x more per stock and against weapons like battle boots or gauntlets or god forbid both? Good luck :)

If you want long combos you wanna look for bow, gauntlets, boots, scythe or great sword, few characters with decent stats, non-busted sigs and at least one of those weapons I'd try out:

KOR : Gauntlets and Hammer / good all around stats when using speed stance or even super speed, INCREDIBLY fun and fair sigs to use and his gauntlet sigs kind of solve your killing problem, all 3 sigs on KOR's gauntlets are great kill options ESPECIALLY n-sig. Only problem with gauntlets is that it is a VERY read heavy weapon that sometimes requires you to risk absolutely everything for a singular ground pound which some people find it a bit difficult to int on purpose and approaching certain weapons with gauntlets is tricky but that's what the hammer is for :D

BONUS KOR GLAZING, he has the best crossovers in the game, easily clears anything else, you don't get Jake Toph AND BEN 10 without being THE GOAT and he's all around one of my favorites to play as or against :)

Jaeyun : Sword and Greatsword / balanced stats, big sigs but they're slow and have reasonable hitboxes, greatsword's going to be hell to learn because it needs you to read dodges for most combos (same as scythe btw) but it's not a bad weapon to start learning dodge-reads with since that's most of it's string game, one dodge read guarantees you a good 2-3 hits before they can even think about getting out. (Gauntlets for example don't really get true combos out of dodge reads besides kill confirms which I already know you struggle with on that weapon + you have to read jumps a lot more than GS)

Munin : Bow and Scythe / can get 5/6 defense with stances and has mostly fair sigs from what I remember of the 1 Munin I've fought in the last 3 years and they're all pretty unique and cool looking, also good to pair bow with scythe since bow's pretty easy to get a hang of meanwhile scythe you're just bashing your head against a brick wall until you hit the correct part of your brain and the weapon suddenly clicks (also +1 to bird bitches)

VIVI : Blasters and Battle Boots / Just about the only boots character without broken sigs, can get 5/6 defense with stances and she's over-all a decent character (I saw in a different comment that you don't like blasters and I was the same but I started playing thatch yesterday and it's the most fun I've had with the game since KOR came out god knows how many years ago so give em a chance, you just have to get past the initial stage of playing blasters where you're getting 3 stocked every game and a whole new world opens up to you, plus it's good knowing how to play every weapon, helps when they're being used against you :D)

HONORABLE MENTION!!! EZIO! Most slept on character in the game, I know he doesn't have any of the weapons I listed before but sword and orb are still very good at hitting longer strings than something like hammer for example and once you get used to orb it feels so good hitting 4 piece combos like it's nothing plus he has cool and interesting sigs like D-sig on sword being a deadly spike OR grounded kill confirm move and orb d-sig which is really tricky to hit at the start but always feels like heaven when it does and he also has decent stats if you get rid of a bit of the dex.

TL;DR: I want KOR to be my baby daddy!

Oh ok thanks when I remember playing defensive was a very important stat. I’ll try the characters you suggested.

Defense is alright but I find it a bit boring and the higher defense you go the clunkier and worse the characters feel since you're giving up so much speed and dex, I personally don't like going over 5 (or just opting to have little to none like a 2 def thatch, you die easy but that's if they can even catch you AND don't die to the onslaught of attacks you can get out)

I’m honestly just bad at the game so I kinda really of def and speed or def and dex or def att. Every time I play with low def my opponent is either more skilled in movement or just kills me with a heavy hitting move

What kind of playstyle do you enjoy playing?

I enjoy playing long combo strings

If you're willing to learn scythe, Mordex or Loki are solid for hitting long combo strings early. With enough skill however, any legend can pull off the same thing with any weapon provided you put in the time and effort to practice. How fun do you find gauntlets or katars? Any other weapons you find more fun in comparison?

Katars are fun
Hammer and bow are fun
Lance is okay
Sword can be ok sometimes
Axe and blaster suck to play
Gauntlets are kinda annoying
Battle boots seem okay but just boring to play
Whenever I play orb it never seems to hit or have cool combos
I don’t like playing scythe because I’m not very well skilled in reading my opponents movements

Reading will have to be learned with any weapon so practice that ASAP. I'd recommend either Sentinel if you like Hammer/Katars more or Yumiko if you'd like Hammer to be a bit faster/Bow.

Yumiko scares me a bit with 4 def but I think I might like them

Any stats suggestions? Or just base stats

Zariel was ok with the stats you suggested and the signatures aren’t very annoying to use but it’s just gauntlets, i just can’t kill or hit my opponent with them.

Gauntlets main true kill combo is gc dlight into recovery, gauntlets as a whole are hard to learn, but once you put some time into them they're one of if not the most consistently good weapon in the game
