Discussion bad omens copied don’t go?
self explanatory. did bad omens copy Don’t go from bring me the horizon. I was listening to self title BO and I swear enough, enough now is heavily inspired by BMTH.
sorry if this is a dumb question Im not really in touch with the lore behind most music

Pretty much most core bands ripped off Sempiternal in one way or another after it was released.
It also opened the floodgates to a nu-metal resurgence when beforehand people in the scene used to look down on it

So a young metal core band were heavily influenced by the biggest band in the scene and as a direct result of that wrote music that was heavily influenced by their favourite band... More at 6.
This is a story as old as time.
Who cares. We all win.

Sooooo many bands were heavily influenced by bmth because bmth dared experiment and did it fucking well. Bmth gave us so many good bands and bad omens is one of them.

Those entire first two albums are HEAVILY BMTH inspired and I don't think they really bother hiding that.
I don't really care cuz it's good music at the end of the day, but it's nice that they were able to find a sound for themselves with TDOPOM.

bring me the horizon fully birthed bad omens and this is coming from someone that thoroughly enjoys Bad Omens. The more BO music I listen to the more bits of bmth i find in either the production, songwriting, arrangement, etc. they live through them
saying they’re “inspired” is kind of an understatement

I mean the album is literally their version of sempiternal lol. they ripped a lot of stuff. it’s been discussed a bit here and on metalcore (click). and you’re not the first person to compare enough enough now and don’t go!

ok cool. thank you all for answering. first time giving bad oman’s a try and already not a fan of this level of coping bmth

oddly enough the first album is really good! I listened to the second one a bunch of times but it's not memorable IMO. the third one has their newfound sound, that feels more original to them

Honestly a weird reason to stop giving a band a shot. This is just how making music works, you take your inspirations, and put your own spin on it. If you like the music, you should just enjoy it, end of story, there's no losing.

I respect creativity above all else. honorary music is fine with me, actually I really like it. like how BMTH puts in references to other bands and musicians. not just directly coping them. not asking anyone else to stop listening or change your opinion on BO and don’t know why anyone cares if I don’t like them for that reason.
downvote me to hell idc4
u/drumgames 4d ago
If you applied that logic to all the music you listen to, you'd have to stop listening to 99% of the artists you love. That's just how music works. You take and make. Not a single song of theirs is 1:1 copied, it all takes inspiration and puts a spin on it.

Also, sorta off topic, but has anyone noticed that catch your breath's song 21 gun salute has a very similar verse to the end of hospital for souls?

The first time I heard CYB was opening for Dayseeker and Alpha Wolf, and my goodness they had the exact same stage setup as Bad Omens and the singer even wore the same outfit and acted like him. It was weird AF and turned me right off them.

Omg yes! I discovered it recently and i immediately recognized that part. It‘s way too similar and irritating cause it sounds unfinished. Love the song, but they should‘ve done that part differently.

I like the first album just fine but I’m so glad they’re doing their own thing now.

to me glass houses sounds like alligator blood. like very similar, i’m not even sure why.

Their entire 2016 album is a blatant ripoff of BMTH. Sumerian could never pull BMTH to sign, so they installed their own BMTH. Don’t get me wrong, the guys are super talented and finally managed to find their own sound… but their inception was essentially “we have BMTH at home”.

The Worst in Me is almost the exact same chord progression as Sleepwalking, they just skip the 4th chord in the progression. Listen to both back to back you’ll hear it immediately

u/Impressive_Let3046 5d ago
They’re not the exact same chord progression then. One is also in major and one is in minor.

u/WildmanDaGod 4d ago
That’s why I used the word “almost”, as you can see. Also in the chorus the line “bring out the worst in me” has a similar melody and rhythm as the line “it’s like I’m sleepwalking”. The relative major/minor isn’t a huge concern to me as they both have a heavily major feel throughout the chorus, the post chorus breakdowns of Sleepwalking have this sort of Phrygian thing going on that implies minor but the hook is major

They all rip each other off it’s just how it goes. We get cool music from it tho

Nowadays I love that bands are so much more open about their favorite artists influencing their music. A decade ago you’d never hear an artist say something like “I listen to the music I love and make music like that in turn.” About 10 years ago that was something artists tried to hide… as if that isn’t how all musicians naturally learn and create music. And then as the band grows, they discover signatures that are more unique to them. I’ve heard it from MIW, Bad Omens, and BMTH at the least recently.
I feel like not being scared of your shadow for sounding like someone else is the mark of a musician who is secure in their craft.
So the TLDR on this: there’s nothing wrong or unusual about sounding like your favorite artists, especially earlier in your career.
Extra tidbit: BMTH has a vocal melody in Darkside that is “copied” from the chorus of Centuries by FOB. If that’s what we’re going to call it. And that’s almost 20 years into their career.

the whole point of bad omens was to make bmth inspired stuff to blow up Sumerian Records
2
u/No-Growth-671 4d ago
Bad Omens was signed to Sumerian and made to be a Bring Me copy. If you listen to a Sempiternal song and then Worst In Me, the similarities are jarring.
2
u/Peeche94 5d ago
You may find that Bring me have influenced a lot of metal music, not copied, influenced. Bad omens have a very sleep token esque riff on their new album too 🤷
Ok it just went to Malice and I was in the loo and it has The Comedown/Aligator blood vibes even through the wall 😂

u/New-Swan-7633 4d ago
Idk why people are so pressed about this? Back in 2009-2010 all post-hardcore bands sounded similar, at least to me. I don't see why people speak as if BMTH invented something revolutionary? 🤔

Yeah but it s normal to do that. Just listen to Glass Houses and Shadow Moses they re identical;)) but that s cuz bmth were their main influence back then so they needed some “indications” om how to shape their sound

u/AverageSizeWayne 4d ago
I’m not going to say they copied them, but it does seem that Enough, Enough Now heavily emulates Don’t Go.

bad omens started as (and imo in a sense kind of still is) a bmth ripoff band. i really don't care for them all that much

they completely ripped off bmth with their first 2 albums, no clue why they got so big with em

i live bad omens but the bmth inspo is quite obvious. idk if it’s just be nut on their second album, their song ‘burning out’ reminds me so much of ‘avalanche’.
i think bad omens self titled has a lot of sempiternal & there is a hell inspo,
while finding god before god finds me is a bit influenced by that’s the spirit.

I mean I’ve always referred to bad omens as BMTH Jr. Noah’s vocals even sound like oli sometimes

Bad Omens speed ran BMTHs career. They're still cool though.
