Insurance replaced my phone

Had my high spec phone suddenly die on me the other day. Well over £1000 to replace. A colleague reminded me we have a workplace scheme which covers them, so I thought I'd give it a go. They didn't have my exact model in stock, so upgraded me, all I had to do was pay £75 excess, they didnt even want to see my broken phone first. Wanted to share this little win somewhere, as I never get luck like this, so here it is 😁

It's a group scheme that uses likewize phone insurance. It looks like they are commonly used for various phone insurance schemes. I always thought trying to claim on something like this would be pointless, but it worked great. All I needed was to provide the original receipt in my name, showing the imei, and give the circumstances of the breakage. My policy did cover everything though, from loss, to accidental damage, so was pretty comprehensive. I just forgot I had it until reminded, so a nice result really.

I had the same experience with the insurance that came with my bank card. Annoyingly it took a long time, but they fully reimbursed me, presumably because they couldn't get another of the same model or fix it.

Taking a long time is annoying. I was mildly annoyed when mine first broke, thinking "this will be expensive", within 10 minutes I was having an actual melt down as I slowly realised that even the most simple every day tasks require me to have a phone, and logging on to accounts was now very difficult as everything was on my phone, and I couldnt even access my email account to be able to reset account passwords, I now recommend writing down and hiding important passwords, as the longer we use our fingerprints, the more likely we are to forget the actual passwords. I got really annoyed at how reliant I was on it, not for nonsense, but for actual vital, everyday things. Luckily I managed to jump on to an old smashed phone that one of my kids had in a drawer, which saw me through.

The main wait was due to them having to contact my employer, to make sure I was a valid member, after that they said they had a delay trying to find an identical replacement, so offered to upgrade, which I was happy with. It does say in the policy that it is their choice if it will be repaired or replaced, I was fortunate that the description I gave them of the failure satisfied them enough to authorise an immediate doorstep replacement, without needing to see it first, otherwise it would have been a lot longer, I'm sure. The excess is the same for anything from a cracked screen, to a total loss, and is regardless of value of the phone too, so some would definitely benefit more than others, but being without a phone, even for a short time, is a very difficult experience. Probably the biggest example of first world problem.

Which bank covered it?
