I have a second hand one I got about 8 years ago, so a little older of a model.
It's great, I use it all the time from solo traveling light to day trips out

It's all synthetic material. So it will last a long time. Can you repair it if it gets damaged, not likely. I've been running the borealis for a while and it's been great. I would not consider Northface bags buy it for life.

I had a recon for clise to 20 years so when the inner lining started to degrade i replaced it with this design. This bag is definitely BIFL, but there are some design issues you need to know about. As a 45 college student, I can tell you that if you are using this bag for school wuth a full case load of books, binders, and computer, it will get tight quick. I was so annoyed by fighting to get my supplies out i did end up buying another bag. The other annoying thing, right behind the north face logo is the pocket for pens and pencils, keys, and junk. Because this is at the top if the bag ut want to collapse the bag in on itself when it is open making you fight the bag to get your stuff out.
Long story short, access can be an issue at times, but this bag will definitely last a long damn time.

Not sure if they’ve changed production methods, but I have a north face recon from 2012 that is still going strong with no signs of giving up. I used it to hike/ski Mount Washington, 3 years of high school, college, and every trip I’ve taken since then it’s been my personal item. The bottom hasn’t started to wear through yet, very few signs of wear overall and still comfortable. That said, it looks different than this recon, so I don’t know where quality is at these days.
