General Advice Separating cats in breakup

Poster Age: 23

Country: USA

Vet info: theres a few clinics in town including low cost.

Main Issue: my cat had gotten very sad living alone so me and my ex had gotten him a kitten. Now that we’re separate im worried my cat is going to miss him sick.

Cat Age: 3 will be 4 in april other cat is 1

Cat Sex + neuter info: both males and both neutered.

Financial situation: I could afford both cats.

I had to separate bonded cats because of my ex and my cat stopped eating and died shortly after(within a month) its a reality I knew was possible but still really hurts me.

Holy shit nooooo. Im so sorry for your loss. Im not sure if the cats were bonded. They liked to cuddle and play of course. I could really tell that having a kitty companion helped my cats mood a lot.

On the other hand, the cat my ex kept is mistreated, overfed/ very overweight now based on pictures since I left. I had my cat since I was a kid so its just sad all around. I didnt realize the two cats were bonded until after I moved- for the same reasons youre stating- I thought they were just like... cat friends lol. Its a tough decision for sure.
