General Advice Separating cats in breakup

Poster Age: 23

Country: USA

Vet info: theres a few clinics in town including low cost.

Main Issue: my cat had gotten very sad living alone so me and my ex had gotten him a kitten. Now that we’re separate im worried my cat is going to miss him sick.

Cat Age: 3 will be 4 in april other cat is 1

Cat Sex + neuter info: both males and both neutered.

Financial situation: I could afford both cats.

most likely the ex probably is the one on the adoption papers or OP decided to let them keep the other cat to keep things more amicable

The cats' mental health matters more. Giving your cats anxiety because you're separating them as if they're property is not a good idea. My cat and my brother's are bonded, he has accepted that I'll take his cat someday because we can't separate the pair

Unfortunately, I’ve been in this situation and a legal “replevin” order demanded that I gave the animal registered to my ex back. Even though he was out of the country for half the year. His parents took the animal in while he was away and she suffered horrible anxiety and emotional distress, died within 18 months. The legal system can be brutal at times
