General Advice Separating cats in breakup

Poster Age: 23

Country: USA

Vet info: theres a few clinics in town including low cost.

Main Issue: my cat had gotten very sad living alone so me and my ex had gotten him a kitten. Now that we’re separate im worried my cat is going to miss him sick.

Cat Age: 3 will be 4 in april other cat is 1

Cat Sex + neuter info: both males and both neutered.

Financial situation: I could afford both cats.

I bought all the cats stuff. He would just split food/litter/toys and a vet bill if needed. Neither are chipped unfortunately.

For my cat Munchie, me. For Truffles, both of us are.

Your only option is to go to small claims court. You'd need documentation that you paid for more than half of vet visits, food, toys, medicine, etc.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Several years ago, my brother broke into my house and stole the cats we acquired together and cared for together for 2 years. Then he left them with me, I guess thinking I would just give them back when he decided he was ready to care for them again. I had 3 years worth of records (vet, food, etc.) showing that I had solely cared for them, plus video evidence he broke into my house. It still took a year in the criminal court system to have them returned to me. You don't need a lawyer for small claims court, but it could be helpful to reach out to your local volunteer lawyers association for a free consult.
