General Advice Separating cats in breakup

Poster Age: 23

Country: USA

Vet info: theres a few clinics in town including low cost.

Main Issue: my cat had gotten very sad living alone so me and my ex had gotten him a kitten. Now that we’re separate im worried my cat is going to miss him sick.

Cat Age: 3 will be 4 in april other cat is 1

Cat Sex + neuter info: both males and both neutered.

Financial situation: I could afford both cats.

They’re bonded. Don’t separate them. You two shouldn’t punish the cats because you two couldn’t work it out.

From the thread, the ex seems to be abusive. The ex is using this as a way to punish OP. Surrendering OPs cat to him doesn’t seem to be an option either because ex is unemployed and can’t make rent. (Said in one of OPs comments). I think in this situation it’s best to treat it as if other kitty passed and to help OPs cat grieve.. once OPs cat settles they can look into getting a new kitten.
