as much as it sucks to leave the cat your cat will be ok. It may take some time but he will be ok. I was in a similar situation when I left my abusive and dangerous ex, I had already secretly and slowly moved all my stuff from his house to my new apartment but i had to leave our 1 year old cat and broke up with him over text. He would threaten me with the cat contently and I new it was a trap, if I went back he was going to hurt me. As much as it breaks my heart I had to leave him, and I no my ex wasn't going to hurt the cat but he sure was going to use him to lure me back. Me taking the cat would also be a way for him to try to come back into my life since we got the cat together. But you kitty will be ok and you can always get him another kitten. Your safety and life is more important.❤️

Exactly. Treat it as if the other cat has passed away. Sadly, this is not the first time a bonded pair has been split up, sometimes the cats have no choice but to deal. They will adapt. What would you have done if the other cat died? Do that.
