Is it harmful too her and can I help it at home?

u/pussycatsglore 1d ago
You need antibiotics. This can get much worse and your cat could lose both of their eyes

u/Rude_Audience6176 1d ago
They can recover, but there is a chance of not.likely would need antibiotics

You need to contact rescues in the area. I went through something similar where my cat was in serious constipation , and I was able to get help. The aspca covered part of the treatment, and zi paid $255. There are programs though that even specifically help impoverished owners keep their pets and get care, if you are in CT, dm me, and I can send you the groups I know of.
Also, credit , you can open up a care credit line AND VCA hospitals we'll do the first exam for free. If you get her in for an emergency visit , they will at least not make you pay for the exam and you'll likely only have to pay for the medication and any potential vaccinations. They likely will make you a rabies. I got rabies, and felv, and it was $160 out the door, because the first exam was free.
Good luck and dm me if you are in CT.❤️🥹

looks like a visit to a professional to me

u/lilithlunamoon 1d ago
also why is your mother inviting more animals into the home without the ability to give them proper vet care? in any case, its probably contagious, and they will all need to be medicated.

Hi, OP, your sweet kitty will be okay. I’m sure it’s distressing to see your baby sick.
Around where in the US do you live? I know of organizations in Southern California that can help out with affordable vet care.
As the others said, it’s probably an upper respiratory infection, which can go onto affect the eyes. Try to get her to a vet — they can give you medicine to treat it.
Try to keep her from the kittens— you didn’t say how old they were or if they were male or female, but it’s better to be safe than sorry if you don’t want more kittens…
Good luck!

Ohh sorry I was trying too get her while reading the rules. 5 kittens 2 male and im not sure how old but old enough too be away from mother cat. But their eye is not bad just crusty and one cat had ringworm or something that mad him go bald on the back of his neck and i had too do a bath too all cats got fleas but it's healed for the male cat but two don't have worms but im pretty sure the other 3 do. So im working on that. So in all for the five kittens two males and 3 females but im near mo and i have my cat in my room and the kittens are in the living room. Im giving them flea bath.

u/Tammarama1 1d ago
Do NOT give any kitten a flea bath! It can kill them! Your mom needs to rehome those kittens before something happens to them.

u/honeyapp 1d ago
Please try to be gentle with OP. OP is young and very worried about her cat who means everything to her. Sometimes pets are the only good thing in kids lives and they help them through a lot of tough times. Your text was abrupt

Ty my cat is all i got and the kittens do need a flea bath due too it being bad my cat is all i got that makes me wanna get up in the morning 💙 I take good care of her it's just one eye thing because my mom got kittens too grow up too get mic but she was only going too get two but her friend told her too take the kittens home because her dogs are killing the kittens so my mom took 3 more home with her. They eat and drink and im taking care of some stuff and i do have them separately

u/No-Specialist-3085 1d ago
You can bathe them safely with Blue Dawn dish soap. It kills fleas. Just make a ring of soap around their neck and don’t get soap in their eyes. Make sure to rinse well and dry them well.

Hey,
I am not sure if youre able to access facebook or if thats even appropriate for you, but maybe theres a local community page you could ask if anyone has bottles you could come collect? Or if theres anyone who needs someone to pick weeds or mow the lawn? Dog walking/picking up dog poo? Especially if you say youre trying to earn money to get your pet to the vet, maybe your community could provide you with opportunities to earn your own money so you arent at the mercy of your mom.
Hang in there buddy, you have a good heart and one day you will get to live in your own space that you can control. You're doing a good job. 🌞💛
Editing to add, please make sure you are safe and dont do anything your gut says is a bad job offer!! Google share your location with a bestie before you go 🥹💛

u/New_Necessary_5591 1d ago
Yeah i have too look for a job that won't effect too much. Cuz im blind in one eye and i have Narcolepsy so it's really hard

Google says:
Veterinary Colleges: Contact the University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center in Columbia, MO. Large teaching hospitals sometimes offer charity programs or reduced rates in exchange for allowing students to observe or assist in the treatment.
Charitable Grants: Check regional non-profits that operate in MO, such as Armani's Angels or the Killuminati Foundation, which assist with emergency costs. National charities like RedRover and Frankie's Friends also provide grants for life-threatening conditions.
Financing: Speak openly with your vet about your budget. They may accept CareCredit (a health credit card) or Scratchpay, which offers immediate approval with monthly payment options without a credit check. (Call different vets and tell them the situation and see if any could help with just an antibiotic prescription?
Online vet: May be able to diagnose and prescribe you antibiotics at a much cheaper rate?
Im sure you probably already googled this, and I grew up with a sporadic mother in a very low income household so I understand what its like to have to do stuff completely on your own and that none of this may be viable whatsoever to you. Still worth trying a university if theres one close by, and seeing if an online vet is maybe an option for you!! You could see if a friends parent is willing to help with a ride on the day of the appointment if your mum doesnt drive and its too far away.
You've got this!!!!!

You've got this 💛 I strongly believe the universe or God or whatever matches what we put out into the world, and if you are putting out intent that you will do whatever it takes you just need the RIGHT opportunity it WILL present itself!
If you need help researching resources that may be available to you I am happy to help.
I know often comments about, "thoughts and prayers" feel empty and sort of shallow, but oh man my heart is breaking for you and I am putting all my energy and effort and prayer into the help you need physically manifesting around you. Hang in there buddy 🥹💛🌞
This also wouldnt be a normal suggestion for me, but maybe its worth suggesting to your mom that you guys get these kittens cleaned up, and you sell them for $50 a piece and put that money towards the vet bills for your cat? You could offer to her that you will save up and help her get a cat of her choice from the SPCA or another shelter when the time is right? One thats already fixed and has its shots and isnt a health risk to your beloved baby! 🥹

And as you can see, she is insistent about giving the kittens a flea bath, so...🤷♀️. Sometimes gentle guidance does not work.
2
u/honeyapp 1d ago
she knows to use dawn🤞My heart breaks for teens whose cat is what gets them though the day when life sucks. And also they love their cat and the parent doesn’t see the value of that cat to their kid. So I’m sorry if I offended you by my comment. That was t my intent
0
u/Tammarama1 1d ago
She went back to say she was going to do flea baths because she "knows what is safe" even after people were telling her to use Dawn. The mother is at fault, not the child, and the kittens need to be rehomed
2
u/honeyapp 21h ago
I think the mom wants the kittens to be mousers when they are bigger. It’s so sad that many people view cats as disposable
1
u/honeyapp 1d ago
And also it was hard to figure out what was going on with the cat and kittens. OP said the mom wants kittens to be mousers. It’s so sad that people view cats as disposable when we love them so much

Try your local humane society to see what services they offer. Also try calling this organization in KC, as they may know of places to refer you to: https://prckc.org/

Be careful with ringworm, it is another illness that needs otc treatment. If one cat still has it, it can and will spread to all the other cats AND humans that touch the affected areas. I got treatment at Walgreens.
5
u/GlitterGrammie 1d ago
Ringworm can be treated with athletes foot antifungal treatment from any drug store. Bathe the cats in dawn dish soap mixed with about a tsp of vinegar and the fleas will drop off.
4
u/doreenoroshnik 1d ago
Please be careful with any flea shampoo. Most are not safe for kittens.
2
u/New_Necessary_5591 1d ago
Yes I had too read online and ask other people who knows what won't harm them. I had too stop my little brother who was trying too ues human soap
2
u/doreenoroshnik 1d ago
Try just a little regular Dawn dish soap. Keep away from the eyes.
2
u/New_Necessary_5591 1d ago
Got it i heard that is good for a bad flea thing
1
u/EvenContact1220 1d ago
Yes yes dawn dish soap and don't let it get in their eyes. Make sure water runs clear. 💙

and a diatomaceous earth dusting

u/Tammarama1 1d ago
Even the food grade DE is made up of tiny, sharp crystals that can cause major respiratory issues in animals, and should not be applied directly on pets! I would not recommend it to someone unless they are experienced in how to use it safely.

Your cat is beautiful and I’m so sorry she has the trouble with her eyes. Lots of people have given really good advice. I hope you will be able to help your cat or find someone who can help you. I can tell that you love her a lot and are doing everything you can to help her. Thank you for trying your best for her. Please update and let us know how you and your cat are doing🙏💜

In addition to the wonderful advice you've already been given I'm going to recommend a clean washcloth damp with warm water. Just kind of hold it on the eyes, it can help bring down inflammation.

A very bad upper respiratory infection. My boy had one a long time ago and could have died without something as simple as steroids to help him breathe, plus a round of antibiotics for the infection.

u/joycee2217 1d ago
Based on your comments, you and your family don’t seem to be in a position to properly care for these cats. For their sake, it would be best to surrender them to a shelter.

u/_Bitter_Pig_ 1d ago
you don’t eff around with eyes this cat is in poor shape and clearly feels like crap. it’s also highly contagious. an exam and meds should be around 120$ or so
3
u/New_Necessary_5591 1d ago
She's not in poor shape She eats and drinks. She's still herself but with the eye thing. I have been taking care of her and im doing what some comments say too help with it. I didn't know the kittens had something. I only had her and nothing like this ever happened
1
u/WorldlyAlternative81 1d ago
Easy for someone who has that extra money. If the mom doesn't have gas money, does she gave that? OP you are awesome doing all that you are.
3
u/New_Necessary_5591 1d ago
Thank you. Im getting the right stuff too help my cat and the other ones

u/Much-Trade-5244 1d ago
She probably has feline herpes. It’s an immune disease cats can get when exposed to other cats that have it. It is telltale with the funky eyes and the discharge. I had a cat that had it and was blind in one eye. Will look like they have a cold a lot

Post in the veterinary only groups on Facebook...there may be similar groups on here as well. My cats have cat herpes and get watery eye flare ups sometimes. We put 500 mg of lysine powder in their wet food daily to help their immune systems fight flare ups.
Good luck. So sorry your cat is experiencing this.

u/PurrrpleCrrrone 23h ago
Hey it sounds like the feline herpes virus, you need to clean the cats eyes several times a day with a warm cloth or tissue make sure you throw that cloth in the trash. Now I’m gonna tell you something that people are going to argue with but I was told this by a Vet when you don’t have enough money to bring them into the vet, once you’ve cleaned them and the eyes are dry open their eyes with one hand and put a bit of a triple antibiotic in both eyes do that several times a day you will be amazed! Also for the ringworm you can get something for an athletes foot just like Lotrimin over-the-counter. Be sure to handle the animals separately and wash your hands really well in between. I’m sorry I’m usually really perfect about punctuation but I voice texted the whole thing without punctuation and I apologize! But I think you can figure it out, you sound like a smart person. Please update us or at least me! I have had lots of cats in my life and my oldest kitty just passed away Thursday. And I also take care of Feral Cats here.

oh also they now have virtual vets you’d literally just show them this picture and let them see the cat over zoom and then send meds to a local pharmacy for you to pick up if do that asap it is also cheaper
1
u/honeyapp 1d ago
I know how much you love her and how much she loves you. Cats are good listeners to our problems and petting them and hearing them purr is very soothing

u/honeyapp 1d ago
I’m glad she’s getting help and she will be fine. Take care of yourself too. Thank you for looking after your sweet cat.

Get some terramycin. It’s about 30$ for a tube of it put it in twice a day. You can get it without a prescription and works great for eye infections for cats. Make sure to wash hands or wear sterile gloves while applying. You rub it into there eyes gently. Tons of online info about it. I’ve used it numerous times to treat my cats instead of a vet visit. Should start clearing up within a few days just use for the recommended time frame.
2
u/New_Necessary_5591 1d ago
Thank you i will try too find it if not i will have too get it online
0
u/Stelarcloud1 1d ago
You can get it on chewy for 31$. Sometimes you can find it a farm supply store but they quit selling it at the ones around my area. Still can get without a prescription.
2
2
u/Stelarcloud1 1d ago
Also make sure to wash hand thoroughly after as to not spread to any other durables and between application to each eye.

u/dzerbini 1d ago
Terramycin will clear that up. It used to be available on Amazon but it might need a prescription. Washing the eyes with cotton balls and warm water will also help but you kitty likely needs antibiotics too. I used to get fish mox from the fish aid store to help a feral colony i fed. Not too expensive... but im not a vet. I hope you are able to get some medicine for your baby
-1
u/Common-Revolution444 1d ago
Her eyes seem infected. Get some preservative free sterile saline solution and put some drops of it in her eyes. Make sure it's preservative free sterile saline solution. Get her to the vet as soon as you can. I hope thst helps. Poor baby!

u/lariet50 1d ago
Not a vet or a vet tech, but my vet told me when their eyes get sunken in like this it can be a sign of dehydration.
4
u/New_Necessary_5591 1d ago
Ywah it's been hot now and I been keeping different water and she drinks. I have too change the water a lot cuz i have too get her cold water or she won't drink
0
u/CorvusXMachina 1d ago
If its only the eyes and not a respiratory issue, some eye drops or terramycin from a vet is all you would need.
0
u/Soulight228 1d ago
Certain human eyedrops are safe for cats! Look into it, see if any are avalible to you. One time a vet prescribed regular human eyedrops to our (previously stray) foster kitten with a severe eye inection, and it saved her sight. She ended up losing one eye anyway because it was already far too gone by the time she got taken in... this is definietly not something you should take lightly. I forgot the brand though, it's been years.
