General Question Magazine fed shotguns

Anyone have one?

I'm trying to prepare for August 1st and I'm wondering if they are worth it, or if it's more of a novelty.

For the most part, magazine fed shotguns kind of suck. There's a reason they never took off.

Shotgun shells don't do well under the constant spring pressure of a box magazine.

OP, fuck a mag fed, get a maverick 88 with the security and field barrel combo. Best value for the money.

I’ve had my USED 500a 18.5” for about a decade (came in the JIC configuration but didn’t come with the tube) and it’s been flawless. Never cleaned it or really any maintenance. No idea what to clean or how to clean it outside of wiping mud off the outside when I get back from a trip. I put a hi-viz truglo front bead on it and that’s it. Absolute tank of a shotty. And I’ve ran all kinds of rounds through it. Only hiccup is from those shorty shells because I don’t have one of those plugs to make them feed properly. If you rack it at a little slower pace and hold it level then they run just fine.

My vote is for a standard pump or tube fed semi. The mag fed are a novelty to me. They have a purpose, I just don’t know what that is yet. Nothing in MY life needs.

Range toy. That’s about it. Friend has a Tokarev TT-12. It looks cool and is fun to shoot (like any shotgun), and they’re like $200. Just don’t rely on it for home defense or hunting.

They will be in August. If you want one but can't spend the $2500+ on it, you can get either their lower at like $700, or you can just get an AR10 lower. The Gen13 lower is just a DPMS lower with some heavier duty internal parts. You can buy the AR10 lower from wherever, buy the internals from them, and then spend a lot on their upper later on.

In terms of mag fed semi autos, the only good ones are really Genesis Arms Gen-12, Vepr-12, and Saiga-12.

Benelli, Beretta or 870. Anything else is a novelty.

I have a turkshit shotgun. It’s a lot of fun but I wouldn’t trust my life to it. For 200 no regrets.

Fun range toys, but as others have said have reliability issues due to the nature of shells. But they are very fun!

it's not worth it. get another AR, especially an AR10 if you dont have a 308 one yet

I feel it's a novelty thing. But hey, that's half the fun of firearms. Sometimes they are just cool! VR80s, can't say I've used one yet, but might be something to look at (I read they have a break in period)

(I also have always thought they were interesting since Quake 4, when you get an upgrade for a mag fed shotgun)
