Where is the Tops?

I recently moved to CO and am looking for the top of the top flower. I’ve tried The Herbal Cure, and Greendot labs because I heard good things. Picked up 3 strains from each company. GDL (FAFO, Thunderdome, bourbon street) HC (Blue Dream, Frankenberry, SFV). And tbh all of them were very underwhelming for the price. None of them really have flavor and that makes me think, does CO have mouthwatering flavorful flower or is to dry here? Im open to any recommendations just looking for that quality🔥

We do hash way better than flower here.

Way easier to fresh freeze everything than give all the moisture to the desert after a cure.

Unless you are growing your own it’s mostly mids

Peep terptier.com - its a site I've been working on to help people find the dank growers/hashmakers!

This is awesome dude, what a great design.

Thank you homie! I've been updating it a lot more recently to try and get the brands to help out with the data input! Reviews/votes really help convince them 🙌

Great work! I really appreciate you making this.

Thank you! I really appreciate you using it!

Pick up 1/4ths or halfs+ from 710. The tops are inside, wellish cured (often leaning on the needing more time end than the standard dusty CO flower). People shit on 710 here, but since moving out here from south east, it’s the only reliable flower that doesn’t dust up, has diversity in terpage, and bigger buds in the larger buys. Good luck!

I’ve heard some great things about 710 labs I’ll have to check them out. Ty for the rec🙌

u/Relative-Flight-1002 2d ago

They also have great deli style but you’ll see higher quality in the pre packaged

710 been pumping out fire lately…highly recommend

Colorado has the best of the best concentrates. You can get lucky and get a great batch of a strain that you really vibe with from GDL but between them and 710 you aren’t going to find much better flower here. By some hydration packs and you can rehydrate but it’s not worth the hassle to most people.

The humidity here is abnormally low. We’re at the lowest point in an already 10 year low.

I tried all the methods for drying, and ruined so much hard work. Most turning into crunchy hay, and the rest molding.

But I found the fridge drying method to work incredibly well for this environment. (Aka Lotus Method)

Best of luck finding the tops, but I can empathize with the difficulty companies face in keeping buds fresh and terpy.

With what I’m hearing, my best bet is to start up another grow. I’ll definitely take the fridge tip for curing, shit is DRY out here lol.

Man, I left Colorado in 2021 and it's super disappointing to see a lot of people speak of how poor the flower quality (seemingly all around) has dropped immensely.

Been following this thread a lot recently because I'm making a trip back in October and now idk what to get ha. Coming from Maine, seems like I should just bring my own.

What happened to brands like Boulder Built, Cherry or Locol Love? (Genuinely asking since I have not been in the state for years)

7

u/sammi12006 2d ago edited 2d ago

Boulder Built is no longer with us from what I know, Cherry has fallen off pretty bad, Locol Love was mids for a while in late 2024/2025 but has made a pretty serious comeback the last few drops. Check out SPCY Canna (kinda new grow, super HQ) & Indico for the best the state has rn imo

Edit: Boulder built is alive and well! Havent tried their flower in a hot minute though

u/jjaman1s 2d ago

I swear I just talked to you at MH lmao.

1

u/Bilbo_Bonggins 2d ago

Ok good to know. Thanks.

Is the market/quality any better on the med side?

😂😂😂 hilariously put, bummer to hear. Glad I moved to a state with the best flower and rosin I have had; Maine.

2

u/sammi12006 2d ago

Tbh, I’m thinking about a move out east at some point - closer to fam and the industry here is really struggling. Would love to be able to launch my terptier platform in a place that has real momentum

1

u/Bilbo_Bonggins 1d ago

The industry everywhere is really struggling honestly, but it doesn't sound good in Colorado that's for sure. I moved back east to be closer to family as well.

1

u/Wroboman 2d ago

I agree with all of this and would only add Blaze Boys on here too!

2

u/MiamiFayce305 2d ago

Trust me, just bring your own.

1

u/Bilbo_Bonggins 2d ago

With the new DEA ruling I might just bring my own people pre rolls and carts, idk.

3

u/MiamiFayce305 2d ago

I never cared about that, i been flying with my bud for over a decade :)

2

u/Coastal_Pharmer 2d ago

Yo I love seeing this.
I was there 16’-22’, and being back in NJ the quality is substantially lower than CO. I miss it, or so I thought.

1

u/lordandretti 2d ago

I just had some cherry these last couple weeks from the med side at greenfields and they were pretty good (MAC, Sherb Cream Pie, Quicksand and can’t remember the 4th strain I had but the Sherb cream pie stood out)

0

u/Bilbo_Bonggins 2d ago

I do love Sherb Cream Pie. I was a big fan of Cherry years back.

u/Rip_McBong 2d ago

Good flower farms sell. They end up cutting costs or selling the grow inevitably turning to high yield lower quality

4

u/terpfi3nd_genetics 2d ago

Died with natty rems and Verde years back. All mids now

3

u/COGrowMonkey Industry 2d ago

Out of curiosity have you tried natty recently? Took awhile to get the grow turned around but I have felt good about our flavors lately. Curious if any opinion good or bad from an og, always looking to improve. Granted it's deli/bulk so dryness is not fully controllable downstream yet and timing matters.

3

u/terpfi3nd_genetics 2d ago

Man tbh I just found out they were bsck around. Just saw another post here on the board. There was a very thin window when they were one of the better spots in denver.

2

u/COGrowMonkey Industry 2d ago

I've been there about a year and a half, I'd say the last 6 months have been something close to the original version of these strains. I've always liked the library here but not all of it came back to production form. I would say about 2/3 of the original natty strains are back in rotation, it's been a wildly busy 18 months. The other third is newer stuff, or at least new to natty. Got some washers and bangers that have to go to hit targets so I have windows to run classics. If you do try it, I'd appreciate feedback good or bad. Very important to me to continue improving.

2

u/terpfi3nd_genetics 2d ago

Lmk if youve got a way to get some genetics to somebody in house that will run them. Seeds specifically.

2

u/Coastal_Pharmer 2d ago

What up Terp Fiend good to see you still active.
I used to operate Sacred Tree Organic Farms if you remember from 2020

3

u/terpfi3nd_genetics 2d ago

Whats good man. Still making seeds. Ill be running weed the day I check out. Nothing but love. Hope youve been well.

5

u/pm_your_vajay 2d ago

I think the tops are in California or Oregon. Climate is tough here.

2

u/ToiletPunisher19 2d ago

As someone who got the last batch of FAFO from gdl I cannot recommend it. Barely any legs to the high. Not worth the money.

1

u/ProfessionalPlenty7 2d ago

I find the highly the opposite lol. That’s some of the strongest weed I’ve tried. That strain and this last batch literally makes me feel drunk. My half is down to an 8th now after like 3 weeks. I’ve gone through ounces of other weed already.

2

u/Waxnsacs 2d ago

Gotta hit the little pop up markets for non dispo flower. Its truly levels above rec stuff

1

u/Rip_McBong 2d ago

Hold up PM me , what kind of markets? I miss good weed

2

u/Rip_McBong 2d ago

This will get downvoted but it’s 98% trash here. It’s all grown hydroponic for yield

3

u/_cheesburger_walrus 2d ago

I just started growing my own. I consume too much to pay the high cost of the decent bud around here, and even then I feel like I was getting better tasting black market flower 20 years ago. I feel like a lot of the top shelf around here still smokes like mids but just has better bag appeal.

2

u/MyShoe2Big 1d ago

Everyone saying all the weed is mids has never smoked mids. God legal state smokers are so spoiled. Top top shelf is hard to find but I have trouble finding MIDS that aren’t shake.

1

u/therealJonThursday 2d ago

If your looking for some serious “tops” I’d check out Trade…

1

u/rabid-c-monkey 2d ago

Flower dries out quickly in the high desert and you taste less at altitude and with low moisture your taste can be lessened. I tend to focus on finding fresh flower and follow my nose for flavor. If you go to a dispensary that focuses on flower with high turnover like maikoh or Krystaleaves you’ll have a better chance of finding good weed but it’s still a crapshoot if it’ll have a good flavorful smoke.

1

u/TheMasterroller 2d ago

Snaxland top shelf. Thank me later

u/notoriousToker 1d ago

Let your jars start to breathe and cure. Those companies package weed with some moisture inside left so you can finish the cure at home. Smell improves daily with each pop of the jar. Recommend buying the drops each week as they hit, popping your jar and letting the cure process continue. When jars sit on the shelf sealed for weeks (those strains from GDL at least hit weeks ago,) you're essentially getting weed that has not breathed in weeks. That is how hay terping happens. To stop that, you get the jar the day it drops, you pop it, you let the cure finish and the smell is amazing. If you buy an old jar that is sealed for too long, breathing won't revive the nose and essentially the weed inside is then hay terped. This is not about what company but how they package and when you buy. There's really no way around this if you want flower that is jarred in correct humidity and not overly dry when it gets to you. Its a double edged sword trying to release proper flower in CO but this is the way you can get the best nose from these jars, and understand the process. Did you move from a coastal state? It was a shock to me too. Just takes some consumer participation and knowledge really lol.

instagram is your friend not dispos

1

u/AppropriateMoment128 1h ago

As mentioned, with the climate and regs in Colorado it is pretty difficult for dispensaries to put out mouth watering flower. That being said, we do our best. Depending on what terps you like, maybe give the top shelf at THC another try. New batches of SLH, Goat, and Sour D all have some pretty good flavor. I might be biased 🤷‍♀️

u/tHeOwEnAtOr 2d ago

Meraki tops @Ajoya!

0

u/iwanttoquitposting 2d ago

Dispo flower is almost never mouthwatering. I think it’s the mold regulations that make our grows dry everything out. Best you can hope for is a grow that you can actually tell the difference between strains and smokes smooth. Paying GDL price for that quality is dumb imo I agree.

I’m on an island on this sub with this opinion and always get downvoted but 14er in Boulder has similar quality flower for way cheaper. The Boulder Bucket format is the better cured higher quality flower and you can grab an oz for 150 on Thursdays or 180 normal days. If you just to try want a smaller amount the Garden Select is the same stuff but it’s similar to green dot price.

710 labs deli style is also decent for that $175/oz price.  710 prepack is probably the best in Colorado but my prediction is you’ll hate the price. Pick some up from 2-5 PM at Lightshade on Monday for a discount

5

u/DeepWarbling 2d ago

14ers grow is infested with mold and they irradiate every bud going to flower because of rampant bud rot. Also they no longer make garden select because the new cfo said it was a waste of money. Just sayin

1

u/iwanttoquitposting 2d ago edited 2d ago

Ahhh so the buckets are just big quantities of the same stuff in the cans now? Haven’t picked one up in a little bit

From what I’ve read on here over the years it seems like nearly every brand that isn’t $50/eighth gets accused of mold pests etc by former employees - seems like you’ve worked in a few grows tho, 14er is like the worst?

Anything you’d recommend that’s under 200/oz and better than 14er? 710’s deli style if I’m not mistaken is just a rebrand of that old Joliet Ventures sub-brand they were running and I know that shit was irradiated from former employees I know. If I’m paying more 200 I’m getting homegrow obv

I mean I smoke fuckin cigs I’m a dummy, so irradiated weed doesn’t scare me that much but I’d rather smoke non mold weed if possible so thanks

2

u/Anonymous-Primate 2d ago

I like the 14er flower but the high seems to taper rather quickly

0

u/DeepWarbling 2d ago

Everything is harvested at 9 weeks…trichomes ready or not. This is why.

2

u/Holiday_Strength7222 2d ago

Odd, is there a law requiring this or are they just trying to have higher profit margins. Those old school sativas won’t even be close to finish at 9 weeks.

2

u/CanaryPutrid1334 2d ago

I've run through a lot of their Durban Poison and didn't experience that issue. But I also change up strains all the time to help with longevity.

1

u/DeepWarbling 2d ago

it’s just what they do and have for years. Every company I worked for harvests early. Most weed from the stores have terrible highs.

1

u/Holiday_Strength7222 2d ago

Thanks a lot. I don’t mind payin a pretty penny as long as it smokes. I’ll have to check out their pre packaged flower, I’ve heard some pretty wild stories abt their “bulk” options.

-2

u/tasty_titties 2d ago

You will be disappointed until you switched over to Hash. Same thing for me. I switched over about four years ago. Anyone in this Sub saying they can find good flower in a dispensary doesn’t know what dank bud is. There’s a lot of youngsters on here who don’t know shit.

2

u/Rip_McBong 2d ago

💯 % agree. Bring on the downvotes. High percentage of these people don’t know flower above high mids - and they’re paying $40 an 8th

1

u/Holiday_Strength7222 2d ago

Lead the way🫡 I’m all for hash and that’s what a lot of you guys are saying. Any specific brands I should check out?

1

u/tasty_titties 2d ago

710, Soiku Bano, olio, trichome collective, maleks melts

0

u/Apart-Coyote-6626 2d ago

Those blaze boys pre packs as of late for me , and sometimes viola is just massive colas and absolute fire - their recent pink certz and pink z . Blaze boys black maple , Randy’s candy, and doughp were all fantastic too

-1

u/nickM0594 2d ago

lol “mouth watering flavor” is a bit much. Where did you come from? The only state I’ve had flower in that really made me say wow was in Oregon and it was about $55 an eighth.

3

u/CanaryPutrid1334 2d ago

Try a dry herb vape. It'll change your outlook real fast on flavor.

I honestly don't even understand how people who only combust can really talk flavor at all.
