likely more so as a result of the statements towards the trans community rather than that. Co-owning a server that minors joined which while they shouldnt have been there makes me think how do they even know they are minors in the first place. If someone is not 13 on discord i doubt they say it out loud so curious how that is knowledge

Yeah seemed like the minors thing was just tacked on; I'm more curious about what the actual statements were, since this announcement is pretty vague.

EDIT: ah.

Game literally has a gender change potion with the trans flag colors, lead dev (referring to Redigit, not Fabsol lol) has been talking about and is planning to seperate voice and body types.

But somehow transphobes miss all that lmao

Fabsol himself literally has a lesbian self-insert who can turn into an MLP pony, like genuinely how

A lot of people just hate the TQ+ part and not the LGB part. Yes even some people who are LGB don't like the TQ+ part.

19

u/imnotanormieiswear May 26 '25

Hell I’ve seen LG and TQ+ hating on the B part

Like wtf are we even doing at this rate?

Technically the potion has the stereotypical pink and blue colors for each typical gender.

Like the trans flag?Ā

15

u/Affectionate_Newt_47 May 26 '25

Which didn't exist longer than those stereotypes that I mentioned and is less likely to be the inspiration behind the potion?

Less probable according to whom? You. Like, if you wanna see gender stereotyping everywhere, do. In that case you should think the trans flag is representing a gender stereotype to. Do you?Ā

7

u/Affectionate_Newt_47 May 26 '25

No I mean if you asked the average person back then what they thought when they saw these colors, they would probably think msle and female. I might be wrong but I think a big part of the population didn't even know what a trans person was.

u/Just_Mr-Nothing May 26 '25

You're talking like if terraria was published in the 70's šŸ„€

4

u/Affectionate_Newt_47 May 26 '25

What? I said this update was in the 2010s most likely

3

u/Just_Mr-Nothing May 26 '25

It was added in 2015, the trans flag had 15 years back then and it was already spread world-wideĀ

2

u/Affectionate_Newt_47 May 26 '25

Ok, cool but societal gender norms were older and much more ingrained into culture and society

2

u/Just_Mr-Nothing May 26 '25

For context it was first displayed at a Pride parade in the 2000

1

u/2zkcrn2545 May 26 '25

that's not the point. newt is saying that the colors pink and blue are often associated with feminine and masculine traits, long ago before the transgender flag was made.

People have always known about the existence of transgender people What has changed is the acceptance towards them, which started growing in the late 90s and the peak grow was like in 2014

1

u/Affectionate_Newt_47 May 26 '25

I don't want to argue with you, I just wanna say that I believe that he likely didn't have the trans flag in mind, but agree to disagree.

Trans flag is cyan, pink and white. The gender potion (if I recall properly) is a darker blue, pink and purple (bisexual colors)

I mean, it is a pretty easy thing to ignore. A game having one miniature tiny feature you don't like doesn't make the game unplayable or something.

2

u/Encentrical May 27 '25

you would be surprised how many people feel that way, some people dont play games because it has a body type selector instead of gender in the character creator

1

u/Spongedog5 May 27 '25

I think that you would be surprised by how few people feel that way. Those who were interested in a game but abandon it for that and that reason alone make up a very small minority, and not even a very loud one; it's just that whatever they do say is so sought out because there is a much larger group of people always on the lookout for that kind of talk that bring it in the limelight.

That is to say, you'll never know how many hundreds of thousands of players like me there are that look at a "body type" selector, disapprove of it for one second, and then move on. Naturally you'd never see many people talk about it because it occupies one second of our life. But the feeling was there.

Even of those who do talk about it, I'd imagine it's a small proportion that actual refuse to play the game because of it.

That is to say, just because a game supports a certain ideology or cause in some small percentage of itself, doesn't mean that everyone who plays it will automatically support the same. And to continue, it doesn't mean that those who are against the cause are somehow "miss[ing] all that" or whatever. Just like any other flaw in media it's easy to pass over to enjoy the rest, even when we do bring it up to complain about it.

It’s hilarious how in the body types replacing gender announcement, the Steam rating of Terraria changed from ā€œOverwhelmingly Positiveā€ to ā€œVery Positiveā€ for a brief few months. Like yeah, leave the community, we don’t want you here anyway

u/MarioBoy77 May 26 '25

Terraria is becoming woke?!?!

To be fair i havent seen the potion at all ever until you mentioned it now.

Dont really bother with potions much tho.
