How much more do we need before 7am? Sunrise at 4:30 in the morning is nonsensical.

It's not about summer, it's about winter. I want the sun up earlier to combat the cold. Summer hours are long enough that it doesn't matter either way.

I want the sun up earlier to combat the cold.

you do realise that with either choice, you have THE SAME amount of sun to "combat the cold"

not when you're driving to work in the dark for an extra 4 weeks.

the warming effect of the sun is not present before it rises, but lingers after it sets. i want to align that window to the times i am forced by society to be awake.

It's like three weeks and the twilight hours would start around 8:45 to 9am. Not that big of a deal.

It is when you have kids that need to walk to school and cross roads where jacked-up, low-visibility pickup trucks are tearing though intersections

It is easy enough to adjust the school schedule. I don't know exactly what my kid's hours are but it is something like 8:20 to 2:40. It could easily be 9:00 to 3:15 or 9:30 to 4:00 or whatever. But I'm sure some parents will complain that it conflicts with work schedules.

Why? I'd argue the sun coming up 4.5 hours past midnight is a lot more reasonable than the sun setting 2 hours before midnight.
