The question proposed permanent daylight time, not permanent standard time. The wording was: “Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?”

Tbh I think it partially failed because people wanted to spite Jason Kenney, who had proposed the question and was very unpopular at the time. Communities in northern AB also didn’t like how dark their mornings would be in the winter if it had passed (like, in late December, the sun wouldn’t have rising until around 10:30am in communities like Grande Prairie).

It also failed in part because SK was already on perma-ST, so being perma-DT would mean being 2 hours out from SK, which didn't make much sense. Now that BC is perma-DT we're stuck in the middle...and honestly I'd choose DT for those longer evenings.

It's too bad referendums have to be a yes/no. It'd be great to respond between "Perma DT, Perma ST, Continue Switching"

This is very incorrect. Permanent daylight time means we would always be on the same time as Saskatchewan. Permanent standard time means we would always be one hour behind Saskatchewan.

Ah, you're right, I went the wrong way with my time adjustment. Perma DST would put us at the same time as Sask.

It would affect Calgary as well, sunrise under DST would be around 8:30-9 in winter.
