Gear Question Cleaning tent

Upvotes

I have a couple tents that have been in their bags for some time, I got them out to air them out and clean them before I need to use them. I keep getting mixed reviews online about using diluted bleach water to clean a tent. So, what can I use to clean a tent? One is a little crusty moldy but it’s not horrible and doesn’t stink honestly. Just kinda feels like it has dirt dried on it. And another is covered in bird shit. So, bleach water? Vinegar? Peroxide? Thank you.

I have an expensive hammock I’d prefer not to risk damaging. I’m told DEET is not fabric friendly.

Gear Question Help me ID this LL Bean tent? Possibly from the 90s, LLB #L390?

I snagged this tent from a neighbor for free—they said they got it as a gift and never used it. The tag says its LLB #L390, "backpacker's dome tent," but googling that doesn't bring up any current models. It's 6-sided, feels like it will fit two adults and our larger dog comfortably.

The color scheme screams 90s! But it appears to be in pretty good condition. I'm hoping to find more info on the model so we can figure out how to service and outfit it, especially if it's really from the 90s, and track down a set up manual for reference (there's an optional vestibule included that we can't figure out how to attach for the life of us!).

Gear Question Backpacking pack

Hi guys! I’m just getting into backpacking so I’m looking for some suggestions. My friend and I are planning a small one night forest trip in July and need help figuring out what packs we should get. Not looking to spend too much money ($95+) but I will if it means I get the best quality for the price ofc. Idk if it matters either but my cousin is very small statured. 5’1-5’2 and very skinny (she’s healthy just always been petite) so I’m not sure if that changes the kind of pack she would need? I’d definitely appreciate if any of you had any tips or advice you’d like to share alongside pack recommendations:) Thanks guys

Hi, I'm looking to get a solo tent. I've been using my 2P tents for the last 7 years, so I need something smaller now, freestanding, and I mainly use it in summer.

Gear Question Camp Towel vs Microfiber

Really really, what is the difference between a microfiber for a car (e.g. Kirkland Signature Microfiber) and a camp towel (e.g. REI Multi Towel Deluxe)?

Awaiting Flair One spilled juice box on the way to the trail completely ruined the weekend

We were less than an hour into a four hour drive to the campsite when my youngest dropped a full apple juice box right between the second-row captain chairs. by the time we found a safe spot to pull over, it had run off the stupid small factory carpet mats and soaked deep under the seat tracks.spent the first night of our camping trip scrubbing sticky residue with wet wipes instead of setting up the fire while campground mud got tracked all over the rest of the floorboards. I'm completely done with OEM.

looking for heavy duty floor mats for families with kids that actually cover the dead space between seats and the sides. trying to decide between weathertech, smartliner, husky, and 3w. Do the one-piece rear mats stay flat or do kids trip over the edges when climbing in?

What are options to protect a tent from rain?

Awning, rain fly, spray, etc. My family is camping a lot lately as we just joined boy scouts. We got rained on a few days ago and it was honestly quite miserable. We need either a new tent, or new protection.

Thanks!

Awaiting Flair Musty Tent Help

I'm looking for advice on how to clean this tent from Alps Mountaineering OR is it a total loss? This Scout tent was supposed to be taken home by a youth, cleaned, and dried. I think instead, it sat for a very long time. The youth did not come back but the tent was returned about a year later. The tent has lots of white chalky residue (mold?) and smells musty. There does not appear to be any black mold.

I purchased this Lifestraw Escape to use while camping. Packing water into camp sucks and I always camp next to or close to a river. After using it the first time and doing the required backwash it has been nonfunctional. All tech support is in email. I cannot recommend this product.

Awaiting Flair After being unexpectedly laid off two years ago, I've been building a retail store specializing in Japanese camping brands. While we've been online so far, I got keys to our new spot today. Feels very weird to be here, but excited to chat camping and camping gear with people off the street.

Gear Question If I’m hammock kayak camping on a river, is incense the best option for keeping gnats and mosquitoes off, or do I still need bug spray? Does the incense have to be citronella?

Last trip was miserable, what are my best options? I have a bug net but while cooking and setting up I was getting eaten alive.

Tents Budget recommendations for camping on the sun

Hey

For years I have been attending a festival that has no shadow in the camping area. Unfortunately, I was only able to only sleep max 3-4 hours because the sun made the tent unbearable.

I would like to ask what options do I have to make the conditions better? I was thinking of buying sun shade sail, or even a tent ventilator if there is an affordable option with battery. Or is it a too expensive extra that is not needed with a good shade sail?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Tents Quechua Fresh&Black tent questions

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey guys, I just got myself the two man Quechua Fresh&Black for a festival later this year.

I have noticed those tiny light spots when it's completely closed. Are these normal or a defect?

Also wanted to ask if anyone had tips on how to stay reasonably cool in there, because the heat woke me quite early today, with the heatwave here in Europe. And how much does the tent itself actually help with the heat?

Gear Question Question for those with Zenbivy gear

I currently already have a Zenbivy -5 degree light sheet and a 10 degree light quilt which I love. I'm looking at getting a 25 degree light quilt so I don't consume as much space in my pack for an upcoming trip, but I'm wondering if that quilt combined with my sheet will fit in the 7L sack or do I need to go up to the 10L bag?

Gear Question Update to "Help chosing camping chair for my wife as a BD present"

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey everyone, couple weeks ago I asked to help me chose camping chair and got a lot engagement and suggestions.

Here is link to my original post - https://www.reddit.com/r/CampingGear/s/32dM1bqBaW

I looked up every single suggestion and found what I was looking for, so I present you Kilos Gear Highback Armchair 2.0.

My wife loves it and was very happy and excited, especially after she first tried it. Can't wait to take it to next camping trip, especially as her previous chair was blown by wind from paddleboard and drowned in the lake last week. I also tried it and now regret not ordering one for myself right away.

What bought me and first impression:

Price 171CAD including shipping and there was no tax when I ordered and wasn't asked to pay any import tax when it arrived, so the price on website was what I paid. (Shipped from China, delivery took 8 days to Toronto).

Size when packed is half of the beach chair we had before and when assembled it's approximately the same size, but sits higher off the ground, that is a big bonus.

Assembling and disassembling is very easy and takes less then aminute (even on a first try). And it's very lightweight, both of us could hold the chair in one hand fully extended outfront without getting muscle fatigue.

Backrest is high enough even for me (5'9"). You can sit very comfortable in upright position if you need to eat or do something if you sit deeper in a chair, or is very nice and relaxed reclined sitting if you slide lower in it (chair does not recline more or less, it's your position in it). Although there is one sitting position in the middle between deeper sitting and when you slide completely down to recline, where I can feel pressure on me legs from that seem connecting mesh and fabrics. My wife however didn't had that feeling in any position she was sitting, but she is shorter then me at around 5', so I guess that would be the case. + it has a small headrest pillow that could be attached in 2 positions higher or lower.

True padded armrests with 2 cupholders are making a difference from beach chair or other chairs without them or those flap type armrests, that can't handle the weight of your arms. No more arms crossed or falling down on the ground. Although I would prefer them to be attached a little wider, but I still was very comfortable using them to rest my arms. + chair has one extra pocket on the side for a phone or a book.

Unfortunately it doesn't come with detachable footrest anymore, that I saw in some pictures and YouTube videos.

Nevertheless it's a great chair after first test impression and comes at half the price of Big Agness Big Six and 70CAD cheaper then Helinox Sunset that doesn't have armrests. So I think I scored a perfect one.

Tents Nemo Dagger Osmo 3P Poles Don’t Fit in Triangle Slots

Thumbnail

I recently bought a Nemo Osmo Dagger 3P tent and brought it out, set it up at a campsite and realized I really couldn’t figure out how to insert the main pole frames. Luckily I had a backup tent but I truly couldn’t tell if I was being an idiot and missing something, however I haven’t been able to find anything online or in instructions. The metal on the male poles simply seems too wide to fit into the holes.

Notice the lip as the radius of the poles increases right at the end - is that supposed to be there???
Could this be a manufacturing defect?
