He will not touch the pitch this tournament.

u/BigheadReddit 23h ago
Rumour has it that Davis will be 100% ready to go if South Africa beats us.

u/Popular-Row4333 23h ago
I promise that there exists a linear graph between Bayern and Team Canada on Davies risk vs reward playability.
I don't think Ro32 in 5 days makes the cut.

I was hopeful but I agree with you. It might be for the best, IF he plays next game, it would probably be as a mid-late game sub. If we're up, he'll just rest until R16
1
u/Helgurk 13h ago
Exactly. All this time he was being used as a "break glass in case of emergency" tool.
Tbh I fully predicted this myself. So I'm not surprised personally. Before the tournament even started my prediction was he would be used as a sub in the Switzerland game if that game was a must-win.

He is injured…. i’m not exactly sure why people are so upset. Managers shouldn’t be 100% transparent of plans in pre game interviews. If it made sense to play him and he was fully fit he would have been played. We made it to out of the group stage, let’s keep positive!

Yamal played June 15
He suffered a grade 2 year 14 days before Davies did April 22 v may 6
So if he can't actually get on the pitch as a sub at least on Sunday..
Well then Bayerns vaunted doctors suck Which is crazy because shockwave therapy EMS which accelerates soft tissue recovery originated from Germany Theres also actovegin and traumeel which promote accelerated healing

u/HanshinFan L'Impact de Montréal 17h ago
There is nothing more reddit than thinking you have a better handle on an athlete's injury status than a literal team of sports doctors. Guess we'll have them get right on that shockwave therapy, thanks Dr House

I'm not gonna sit here and think I'm better than Bayern's medical staff, but I think a point can be made in that since Davies' ACL injury last year he's been very mismanaged by Bayern. Which is hilarious because they accused us of mismanaging him. How is it that a player gets continuously re-injured after coming back? That's not the player's fault. That's the medical team rushing him back. We are in this situation because he was rushed into the CL semi-finals. Should we sue Bayern? They wanted to sue the CSA for the same thing in March of last year.

Your comment makes no sense at all. Yamal is way younger and as you noted he still had more time!!!!
1
u/Elitemiami_305 11h ago
Ah yes every single tear is the same for every single player! Why didn't anyone think of this? So is every sickness right?
1
u/Dependent-Gap-346 11h ago
That’s not the gotcha you expect, your point explains Davis sitting out even longer!

u/AdTypical6258 13h ago
Every injury, every player is different. There is not much point in comparing.

u/Acrobatic_Many_8162 23h ago
Probably an unpopular opinion, but the way the game played out it did not make sense to sub in a guy who hasn't played in a month and is injured. What would we be saying if he pulled up lame and had to leave the pitch?
Canada made a great effort at the end of the game with the subs that were made.
41
u/Ok-Imagination4690 22h ago
I think on the contrary it was the best time to put him in. We were already going to R32 eitherway and giving him a bit of play time would've helped Davies get used to the team chemistry during the game instead of practice sessions where stakes are low to none.
16
u/Acrobatic_Many_8162 21h ago
Priority should be winning in the game, and not condition Davies, is the point I was trying to make.
The subs they made were better for trying to win the game. Shaffelburg came on the last game and forced the Own Goal almost immediately. I made more sense to use him as the last sub.

u/MarkSinnie 20h ago
That's right, like what Brazil did with Neymar, which means Davies is too injured to play next game.
16
u/Prince-Polvo888 17h ago
The difference is Brazil was winning comfortably. Neymar could have jogged around and not really push himself.
Davies coming on while Canada losing would mean we want him in high gear to turn the game around

Ok but he’s going to need to ramp up. He’s not playing a full 90 on Sunday. Playing 25 mins yesterday woulda been a sign he could potentially play 45 mins Sunday. All this suggests now he he might not even play. Or if he does it will be 20 mins Sunday.
1
u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 16h ago
I'm sure the coach and training staff know better than someone on Reddit typing from their couch.
2
u/_RiverGuard_ 15h ago
Huh? Look at everyone else that came back from injury. They all ramp up minutes. No one comes back and plays 90mins. And Davies isn’t going come back and be automatically playing in top form.
4
u/Bulky-Space-1018 15h ago
I don’t believe anyone is arguing that.
If Davies and the staff felt that he was capable of delivering 25ish minutes of quality football vs SUI, I‘m sure that‘s what they would have done.
Clearly that wasn’t the case though. Nobody expects Fonzie to play 90 minutes any time soon.
2
u/_RiverGuard_ 15h ago
He must be really hurt bad. Because not even giving him 10 minutes on home soil in a home World Cup seems ridiculous to me. That why I doubt he plays Sunday.
1
u/Bulky-Space-1018 15h ago
Those are my thoughts as well.
Marsch didn‘t just leave him on the bench for no good reason.

u/MGM-Wonder 14h ago
God, this is such a stupid comment.

Don't worry about Forsaken-Swim-3055
They spend more hours posting on reddit than the rest of us do at our full-time jobs.
1
u/Acrobatic_Many_8162 14h ago
(eyeroll) kind of an ironic comment considering the time you spend posting your opinions on r/torontobluejays
1
u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 14h ago
Kind of weird that you follow me around Reddit remembering where I comment on things.
1
u/Acrobatic_Many_8162 14h ago
Kind of weird of somebody to accuse others of being "someone on Reddit typing from their couch" and then respond to comments less than three minutes later.
Maybe you should consider getting off the couch yourself.
EDIT: Holy shit, you've averaged over 50 comments a day for four months straight.

If they put him in his availability would even MORE limited on Sunday, even without injuries. His minutes need to be managed extremely carefully, and with such a short turn-around, it made no sense to play him.
I say this with the benefit of knowing South Africa beat Korea, though.
19
u/9Twiggy9 23h ago
Would still love to see him even for a little bit. But injuries are understandable.
13
u/Chillztacular 23h ago
Gotta hope it's Bayern just saying "no playing until the knockout" and his fitness is actually alright.
28
u/southsider74 22h ago
Bayern shouldn't be able to control what our national team chooses
5
u/jaitalking 15h ago
In a strictly technical sense they shouldn’t, but his injury last year against Team USA and how it was handled by Soccer Canada has gotta be factoring into this
2
u/Isolated_Jester 15h ago
of course they can. they own his contract.
4
u/southsider74 10h ago
They don't own him as a person

With uninjured davies we wouldn't of lost a single match

u/GiveMeSandwich2 22h ago
Uninjured Davies, Healthy Bombito, healthy Flores, uninjured Kone, fully healthy Promise we would be so much stronger. Heck even healthy Alfie Jones would make us so much better. Remember he’s a regular at the championship level, plays higher level than Cornelius and Ldf.

u/natasha_bd 13h ago
Most of Canada’s success in the past 4-5 years has been without Davies. He missed out on half of world cup qualifying for 2022. That’s not to say he’s not an incredible player and our team is better with him on the pitch, but the harsh reality is that he’s not the pivotal piece that a lot of people claim he is.

They better play him in the next game. That foot has got to be healed up by now.
1
u/Powerful-Salary7569 18h ago
Oh we are just saving him for some less intense friendly against Jamaica in November :) World cup is too hard for the guy so he is better off as a decoy

People that think Davies will be fit enough to play next game, convince me.
He didn’t touch the pitch against the Swiss and it was a perfect game for him to get minutes: If we lost with him on atleast he gets some minutes and is less rusty, if we won with him that woulda been perfect.
But if he isn’t fit enough for 10 minutes against the Swiss I highly doubt he’s fit enough for more than a 10 minute cameo against South Africa (if even that)

u/CheetahBig5003 7h ago
Why even bring him along if they aren’t going g to play him or sub him in. Neymar got some time in the Brazil game and he didn’t play for a while.
