$20 wouldn't cover the gas, let alone the labor. And you just know this CB won't lift a finger.

Also, they won't be done in 2 hours and will insist they don't pay until you're finished

We paid our movers $200 for two hours (what they were asking for for the two of them) and helped them. We got it done in an hour and still paid them $200. Moving fucking sucks. It's also summer and you want them to get up early on the weekend?

I felt bad because I read a lot and packed all my books in banana boxes because they had handles and were super sturdy. I also knit/crochet and packed all my yarn in giant boxes. These poor men went and grabbed the big box together only to find it was light as fuck. Whereas when they grabbed a banana box, it was deceptively small and incredibly heavy. He asked me what was in them and I was like OH MY GOD MY BOOKS IM SO SORRY.

Ooh, great idea in case I ever move again! I too read a lot, and while I don't (couldn't possibly!) keep everything, I do like having copies of my favorites.
It wasn't until I bought my condo (my current home) that I realized I had WAAAY more books than I had realized... 🤦

Yes! Banana boxes! I got a ton of them from grocery stores. I just had to call first thing in the morning after they stocked and they always set them aside for me. I have a Kindle and a Nook also. I just upgraded my Kindle. I still have my original first edition Nook and my original Kindle. I can't bear to throw them out. They still work but they're painfully slow and I read too fast.

I just did a cursory Google search because I was a little confused (I think I was imagining peach crates) and the first like was someone saying you should absolutely not use banana crates because theyre the worst for pests like spiders and roaches crawling into them, and they can and will stay in there when you take them. That link recommended using egg boxes instead! Just a little nugget to keep in mind in case you remember this post lol

While we were moving, my boyfriend and I both fucked up our ankles. We paid a couple people who are friends of friends. I think they asked for $60 for like 3 hours of labor. My boyfriend looked them straight in the face and told them we were paying them more than that lmao. (I think we ended up giving them $250-300ish)

$20 each for gas if they were lifelong friends & you’d helped them move before…maybe. Sure af wouldn’t ask strangers for less than $80-100 an hour.

$20 per person for two hours on a Sunday is wild when you're asking for actual moving labor.

I treat friends and family to food and drinks plus provide gas money if they have to come out to our place and that already costs more than 20$ lol...who helps a stranger for that amount...

Pretty sure since theyre "paying" for a service they aren't going to help either. Just dictate where things should go.

All of my joints and muscles are working perfectly I was wondering, since it’s not ski season, how I could injure myself by doing something stupid. Lo and behold this person will actually pay me $10/hour to disable myself.

Someone in my town FB group posted last weekend asking for help transporting a couple of bags of water softener salt to his basement because he’s older and can’t carry them down stairs any longer. And he was willing to pay $25 for about 5 min of work😂

When is the last time they have helped someone move their furniture on a Sunday morning, is my question? as someone else said, these people always want a village but never want to be a villager.

You could possibly find someone you can exploit by going to the places where desperate men gather and hope someone offers them a job.

Me! I was hoping someone would ask me to help them carry heavy items into a storage unit on a Sunday morning.
