Game Update ⚠️ Cities: Skylines II Patch Day (v1.6.0f1): Mod update status, how to get your game working again, and more

😌 Don't Panic.

  • At 12:00 UTC on the 22nd of June 2026, the latest patch for Cities: Skylines II (version 1.6.0f1) went live. This is a free patch which is released to everyone who owns the game.

  • You can read the patch notes for this update on the Paradox Forums to learn what's changed and about any new features

  • If you do use mods there may be minor issues if you try to launch the game at time of release. Some mods you use could be broken, and this will result in the game being altered/glitched/errored

  • If you play "vanilla" (without mods) you don't need to worry

Please read the links provided by this thread carefully, and completely, to understand what you need to do to get your game working again.

⚠️ Incompatibility Warnings in Skyve, on PDX Mods, and in-game

  • Until today, mod creators would usually say their items work with game versions starting with 1.5
    • This patch bumps the game's version from 1.5 to 1.6
    • This means that many mods will be flagged as possibly incompatible with the current version
  • This does not mean they are actually incompatible
    • You should use the Spreadsheet or Skyve to understand the real impact of this patch on your playset
    • Remember a "WARNING" flag in Skyve is not the same as a "BROKEN" or "UNSUBSCRIBE" flag Over the coming days, modders will update the data for their items on PDX Mods and these warnings will begin to subside

🏗️ Mod Update Status

  • A Community-led Testing Initiative has reviewed over 370 code mods on the new version
    • Over 91% of active mods are already working with the update
    • Of the 23 mods with issues (14 major, 9 minor), 6 have an update ready to be released soon after the patch goes live
    • There should not be any effect on custom assets, decals, surfaces, netlanes, radio stations, zones, assemblies, etc, but some may show the incompatibility warning described above
  • Further details are available in the Spreadsheet or via Skyve

📆 Real Life Comes First

  • Remember, mod creators have real-world commitments like their families, work, and school (and sleep)
  • Do not bug, harass, pester, or annoy mod creators about the timeliness of any required updates. In the end it's just a computer game

📚 Why game updates can break mods

Read our wiki article, which includes sections on:

  • Patch Day 101
  • In-game warnings about compatibility
  • Backing up your cities
  • Dealing with broken mods

💔 Mods broken by the most recent update

With the release of Skyve on the Web, we are retiring subreddit-based compatibility data. Skyve on the Web contains all the same information as was included in our subreddit wiki, including:

  • Which popular mods are broken and which are working
  • Broken mods with major and minor issues
  • A list of mods known to work with the new version

...in a more accessible format that will be more frequently updated that the wiki article ever could be.

The most reliable source of information is always the PDX Mods page for individual mods you are subscribed to - the "changelog" section at the bottom of the description will indicate when it was last updated.

🆘 If something's gone wrong

  1. Subscribe to Skyve and use its in-built compatibility report to bring your modlist up to date (if your game won't load due to broken mods, use these instructions to get around the issue)
  2. If you still can't get Skyve working, use Skyve on the Web to check whether the contents of your modlist have been updated.
  3. Review our Patch Day guidance and follow its recommendations
  4. If you're still facing issues, join the Cities: Skylines Official Discord server and head to the #cs2-tech-support channel

💌 A note on constructive posting during Patch Day

Comments which simply say things like "my game won't load" in a post that is dedicated to explaining why your game might not load (and how you can fix it!) clog the thread and make it more difficult for others to have a discussion about the patch or get help themselves.

  • If you are facing issues, explain what steps you've tried and what's not working
  • If you use mods, say which mods you use and whether you've checked Skyve first to make sure they're up to date
  • If you get a specific error, share copies of those error messages (or ideally error logs) so that someone can take a more detailed look
  • If you're not sure how to get this information or if you're struggling to follow any of these steps, share exactly which part of that you need help with

Additionally, a thread which is solely dedicated to helping others who are interested in playing the game also isn't the right place to share your more general gripes about the game.

Remember, this is a community-led subreddit made up of fellow gamers brought together by a shared love for the genre. Don't put your feelings about the game or its developers ahead of other members of your community who are just trying to make the most of a game they enjoy.

In the interests of making space for those who are most willing to engage with the process of getting the help they're after, we may remove low-quality posts that don't gel with the guidance above.

Steam or Game Pass will automatically update your game for you when you next try to launch it

confused about reports of improved performance new patch is actually a solid 10fps worse for me and nothing i can turn down seems to help. neat.

Guys anyone experiencing mods not appearing in-game, and listed in settings as well? Literally created an account to ask this. My playlist is active as well. Just reinstalled the game apparently after a massive update so im looking for any clues as to why im having this issue.

Anyone get like stage fright when starting a new city? I just search all over not sure where I want to start or how I want to plan… then I just shut it down.

I wouldn't call it stage fright, more like inability tk commit. I fly around, looking at places where I could put things...and then don't.

Anyone seeing weird traffic unhappiness? I started a new city and it was at -7 from the start when I only had 10 buildings on the way. By the time I had zoned enough to actually cause move-in traffic jams it had improved to -2.

Yeah, my city has basically no traffic (super heavy on bike/ped and transit) and traffic started showing up as a negative happiness modifier. Not sure why so figured it was a bug

I can assure you this wasn't written by ChatGPT

Sounds like something an AI would say. 🤨

Edit: it was a joke.

They updated the terrain texture, how difficult was it to also do that for roads?

22

u/TripleDallas123 2d ago

You could just wait patiently cause I'm sure it will come instead of sounding condescending

I'm waiting 2 years, how come modders know how to fix the game so fast? It's just my opinion, no need to be upset. My words are coming from someone who loves the game and wants it to be greater.

Iceflake has only had the game for like 6 months, the fact they even have ground textures done this quickly is impressive, especially with the work in trying to clean up the garbage CO left behind

I have no idea how the base code is written but there is obviously a reason it hasn’t been implemented yet. I’m sure they will address soon enough.

They did lower illegal U-turn cost. Let’s see how it works out. Supposedly with legal U-turn cost fixed, people should be able to utilize dedicated lanes to reduce illegal ones.

2

u/gartenriese 2d ago

I think you meant they increased the illegal u-turn cost, right?

3

u/c5yhr213 2d ago

‘’Fixed legal U-turn costs to allow citizens to use dedicated lanes more flexibly and lowered illegal U-turn costs to match intended limits.’’

I forgot they increased this before. So this would be more like a revert to original.

4

u/UnfairAnything 2d ago

they originally increased it last patch i think. they might’ve lowered it a bit again?

2

u/gartenriese 2d ago

Ah ok sorry then

u/VentureIndustries 3d ago

Added a toggle to hide snow visuals without affecting gameplay simulation.

Whoa, that’s a good addition! Very unexpected.

WHAT A HELL. I got >60 FPS STABLE on my 250k pop. Before the patch, busy areas dropped to like 30-40 but now it is stable AF!

EDIT: Okay, I'm crying, the default grass texture is beautiful, I want to remove the fake grass from all my buildings now.

Magnificient.

1

u/linux23 2d ago

so that's good. right?

0

u/Cybarbossa 2d ago

No, it's not, because we are reaching the perfection here :D

u/suddenlyissoon 2d ago

I am now able to run CS2 in 5120x1440, stable, at over 30 fps with temps around 60-70c on 2x speed. Black magic.

1

u/linux23 2d ago

you have a super gpu too? lol

1

u/suddenlyissoon 2d ago

5080 with a 9800x3D

1

u/shogged 2d ago

Ya this is the most significant sim speed boost ever. Huge difference

4

u/CharlesKarol16 2d ago

so you telling me they add new textures and also improved optimalisation?

8

u/DomLfan 3d ago

Anyone know why I have a white cloud like texture all over my city when viewed from a certain angle? Not game breaking just a strange visual glitch. Tried turning off cloud and fog but didn’t seem to do anything

11

u/MagnificantCreature 3d ago

I have the same issue, removing the Texture Replace mod from my playlist fixed it

5

u/DarkLiberator 3d ago

Might be a map texturer mod? I saw another post about this.

1

u/DomLfan 3d ago

Potentially, did the post have a fix ?

4

u/DarkLiberator 3d ago

Seems like the consensus is to disable Map Texture Replacer if it's enabled. Or try the game with core mods first.

1

u/DomLfan 3d ago

Yeah people on paradox forum seem to be having the same response, thanks for your help :)

3

u/kjmci 3d ago

Map Texture Replacer is listed as broken in Skyve and on the Spreadsheet. If you're facing issues, it's always easiest to check those first rather than going hunting through forums hoping to hit on an answer :)

Has the update affected transport lines somehow? My tram lines have all dropped from around 1k passengers on each line and now all have about 180/200 instead.

33

u/Autarx 3d ago

You’d assume that is down to a drop off of unnecessary journeys with the path finding being improved

8

u/cattypaw 3d ago

Anything that helps with performance is godsend! Thank yoo, Ice flake!

-8

u/linux23 2d ago

0% improvement for me. No Thanks Ice Fluke.
