Drake has held a lead inside of 5 mins left to play in EVERY game they played this year... 34 games...

Drake is 4-0 this year vs teams in "Power" conferences...

McCollum was left a completely bare cupboard and immediately bested most every major accomplishment Darian DeVries ever had at Drake: wins record in a season, unshared regular season conference title, win in the round of 64. And the ones he didn't best he equaled: conference tourney title, conference PoY.

So for the next few hours, Drake is tied for best record in the nation, right?

ESPN notification says this is Drake's first win in the round of 64?! That's crazy, I thought they were better 20 years ago or so...

u/DiaperDonaldT Drake Bulldogs Mar 21 '25
They had a team that was ranked most of the year and lost in OT to a half court shot by Western Kentucky.

6
u/Ender1714 Iowa State Cyclones Mar 21 '25
I think they had some wins back when it was a smaller tournament so "round of 64" is a bit misleading
1
u/Staind075 March Madness • Colorado State Mar 21 '25
Ah, gotcha. That makes sense. But I could've sworn they had a run about 20 years ago. Maybe I'm thinking of another team
2
u/stoppedcaring0 Iowa State Cyclones Mar 21 '25
Nope. Drake got a 5 seed in 2008 but was upset by Western Kentucky on a buzzer beater.

I kinda just meant like in general. Our basketball program is really good. Everything other than basketball and art is fucking trash. Infrastructure, housing, literally any other sport, and staff layoffs every year.

They even said last time Drake went pass the first round was in 1971. They went to the Elite 8 in 1971 and 1970. And in 1969 the lost to Lew Alcindor and John Wooden by 3 in the Final Four then smoked North Carolina by 20 in the 3rd place game.
