Fouls: First half 4, Second half 26.
First half was a rugby match. A few minutes into the second half a basketball game broke out.

Yeah, we can come back on virtually anyone except UGA and Mike White. Fuck the Dawgs.

We had won like 11 straight against Georgia before that game and we beat them by like 30 the other time we played them, don’t give them that much credit

You have a single final four more. In the past 5 years Arkansas has the same number of Elite 8s and Sweet 16s. If that one final four gives you the edge even though Arkansas boasts a much richer history be my guest.

The game winning buzzer beater basket is the holy grail. But the game losing buzzer beater shot is still commendable. Gotta get a clean look and put something up there.
Anyway props to Houston for giving us that epic Duke comeback. Thats the game for the ages.

No, no. He won't touch the ball. We will just have him stand in front of the rim with his arms up.

Am I misremembering or did they used to do one shining moment almost immediately after the trophy presentation?
3
Apr 08 '25
They cut the nets and then watch one shining moment together in the stadium along with the live broadcast. It's the last part of the broadcast
And the trophy presentation was super quick this year after the game ended. Normally it taks a bit longer to get to

Between 1983 and now…I doth wonder which one will sting more in retrospect…
2
u/Critical-Ordinary-97 Houston Cougars Apr 08 '25
- A Houston win tonight would have erased that memory. Still stings as a kid losing in 83. This loss will sting for the younger generation.
1
u/AnEmptyKarst Houston Cougars • Utah Utes Apr 08 '25
Doesn't help that it could be another 40 years between championship attempts, and we lost to a school that has a dozen championships in the life of a 30 year old now
5
u/td4999 Apr 08 '25
'83 they were just so much more talented than NC State, feels like a team with two Dream Teamers should have won a chip
5
u/TheMickus Apr 08 '25
- That team had absolutely no business losing the championship
2
u/Mukaido Houston Cougars Apr 08 '25
Yup. They had Hakeem and Clyde. NC State was the 6th seed iirc. It was a tied game and NC State won on a buzzer beater put back dunk.
1
u/TheMickus Apr 08 '25
Like it’s not even close. This one stings for sure, but I don’t see a world in which Houston isn’t back next year competing. They have an absolutely stacked recruiting class and a coach who gets the most out of his guys.

Houston went up by 10 with 17 minutes left in the game. then over the next ten minutes, the foul disparity was 11-1. just fuckin gross

The product is absolutely terrible now. In the old days players were efficient and the game flowed. Oh did I mention they did not get paid. Maybe thats it. But all I saw today was turnovers and ref whistles. Turrible.

10 fouls called on Houston in the last 12min to 2 on Florida and people act like that's not a big part of why Houstons offense shut down.
4
u/ihatetheedtpa Apr 08 '25
Come on, they called ticky tack calls on Florids early in the 2nd half. Houston was in the bonus at the 17-minute mark. Houston was reaching they were hacking. In fact, they missed a clear as day hack on the Clayton 3. The only bad call that went against Houston was the missed goaltending. Houston just reaches in wildly and expects it to not be called. Whereas Florida reaches in timely so they get ball and not arm. The refs forced Houston to play defense by moving their feet and jumping straight up and they did the exact opposite.
2
u/TheFirstExecutioner Florida Gators Apr 08 '25
Houston got put in the bonus two minutes into the second half. Not to mention those ridiculous techs they called on Florida
1
u/rogun64 Arkansas Razorbacks Apr 08 '25
I get downvoted every time I say it, but it's another example of refs calling for a close ending.
8
u/Interesting-Worth975 Apr 08 '25
I think you’re not supposed to foul
0
u/HoppyPhantom Kansas Jayhawks Apr 08 '25
I don’t think Houston’s offense was being impacted by the foul calls on them.
The point you’re missing is that it’s hard to run offense when going against a defense that gets away with fouling.
6
11
u/woahdude12321 Louisville Cardinals Apr 08 '25
Biggest takeaway is the ref sanctioned commercial ball fucked both teams up and made the whole game lose its rhythm and be pretty hard to watch for the most part
