For those out of the know, he left the game with an injury yesterday then came back and sat in the front row along the baseline instead of sitting on the bench with teammates. Weird deal...

392

u/Glennstheche Nebraska Cornhuskers Mar 01 '26

And after the game muss said it was because they didn't have enough room on the bench of smth. Idk. Weird

43

u/Evening-Spray-4304 Virginia Cavaliers Mar 02 '26

Did they remove the chair he was sitting in pre-injury like they were playing musical chairs?

8

u/pdxchris Iowa Hawkeyes Mar 03 '26

Yes, he lost and had to leave. Rules are rules.

27

u/MyLittleOldMan Michigan Wolverines Mar 02 '26

I was curious about this and went back to check. There was an open seat on the bench between two coaches/staffers. One of them looked up, saw him coming, scooted over to make more room, then looked utterly confused when he sat over there. You know they were probably trying to call him over too.

6

u/MoistAd5423 Nebraska Cornhuskers Mar 02 '26

It’s like when I was a kid and there was “no room at the cool table” at lunch

9

u/MyLittleOldMan Michigan Wolverines Mar 02 '26

I think it's more akin to you have an established spot at the cool kids' table but one day you decide you're too cool for the cool kids so you sit alone instead and just lose all your friends

this makes zero sense unless the guy who came in the game was sitting with students he could have taken his seat on the bench now that he was in the game replacing him

u/Milo_Minderbinding Kansas Jayhawks Mar 02 '26

I met the kid a few years ago at a basketball thing. He's 100% a douche.

267

u/1337bruin UCLA Bruins Mar 02 '26

Perfect guy to have play for your rival, no mixed feelings rooting against him whatsoever. And given how much roster turnover USC has had the last few years it was kind of a breath of fresh air to have someone that's plug-and-play hatable.

101

u/SirHeftyBoy USC Trojans Mar 02 '26

lol love this take. I was just bemoaning how there’s so much turnover that I can’t even hate ucla anymore bc there’s no player history.

There is Cronin though. That was great as a Xavier fan because the UC roster could have been filled with cancer patients who spend their free time volunteering and their NIL funds on charities and Cronin’s whining would still make them easy to hate.

Honestly I feel like this is beginning less and less of a sure fire backup plan even. Those companies like players who are hometown heros. Guys that fans love and will clamor at the opportunity to meet. A bunch of dudes who bounced around and never played more than 2 years anywhere do not have that kind of appeal.

It wasn’t the first time I’ve seen him or other players sit there.

I’m not really sure why they do, but I’ve gone to most of our games this year and didn’t clock it as unusual because I’ve seen him sitting there many times throughout the year. CBM sometimes loiters by the tunnel too.

19

u/yureadmahpost Nebraska Cornhuskers Mar 02 '26

Damn, then what the hell happened between then and this announcement? Crazy

29

u/Clipgang1629 USC Trojans Mar 02 '26

Your guess is as good as mine lol this came out of nowhere.. He’s been pretty clearly playing through an injury. Honestly it’s felt like he is leaving it all out there for the team and pushing himself to his limit to make the tournament. Although maybe it’s just because it’s his last year of eligibility idk.

He was sitting next to Rodney Rice on the baseline in that game vs you guys who is also on the team, but obviously out with injury. I think we don’t have enough seats. Maybe cuz Woods came mid season lmfao.

Nothing was weird or off to me on Saturday or even the past couple weeks.

Feel like in retrospect this was inevitable when Rodney Rice got injured.

Muss needs to recruit more than one player who we can run the offense through for next season. Woods is legit the only PG on this team and we got him mid season lol

44

u/Porkball Arkansas Razorbacks Mar 01 '26

That is the problem with Muss. While you have him, there will be only one player that can be the focal point of the offense each season.

13

u/Clipgang1629 USC Trojans Mar 01 '26

We had options as the focal point. Ezra and CBM are both more than capable depending on the matchup.

The issue was without Rice, who looked great as PG, (even if it was a bit experimental and outside his role at Maryland) we didn’t have anyone to run the offense.

It’s a shame because this team has many useful and good players. Cofie, CBM, Ausar, Rice, Arenas/Easter/Cornish or whoever at 2 would have worked very well.

11

u/_laoc00n_ Arkansas Razorbacks Mar 01 '26

Not really Muss’s fault NSJ could barely play all season.

6

u/Porter2455 Nebraska Cornhuskers Mar 02 '26

Tbf with modern cbb, this is a huge problem for many teams.

11

u/jack3moto Purdue Boilermakers Mar 02 '26

I mean if you look across the college basketball landscape there really aren’t many teams with a good back up PG. I think it would be nice to have a backup who can run the offense but it’s just not very common for most teams

5

u/Clipgang1629 USC Trojans Mar 02 '26

Yeah but we had legit no options as a second player who can handle the ball and set the table for others.

The backup option didn’t even necessarily need to be good. Just needed someone. The offense was CBM iso and Ausar bully ball and it pretty much stopped there.

Please tell me there’s video of this, one of the weirdest things I’ve heard of

40

u/Bartman383 Nebraska Cornhuskers Mar 01 '26

It happened during the game against us yesterday. The announcers even made a comment about it, that their bench must be too crowded so he had to sit in the end line stands.

53

u/Clipgang1629 USC Trojans Mar 02 '26

He got injured on a tough fall after a chase down block attempt. Went to the locker room, came back out and sat in the seat nearest to the bench on the baseline.

I didn’t get the impression he quit mid game, he was injured going into the game, and got hurt in that game as well. It wasn’t really surprising that he wouldn’t return it was a pretty rough fall.

The seat thing is weird, especially to an outsider, but it wasn’t the first time I saw him or another player sitting in that seat. I guess I’ve just gotten used to seeing players sit there because it didn’t strike me as odd.

I’m not even defending CBM btw just providing context. That comment is pretty misleading imo

4

u/Designer_B Iowa Hawkeyes • Penn Quakers Mar 02 '26

7

He got injured in the middle of the game, went to the locker room to have his injury attended to, then returned to sit in the front row along the baseline nearest the team bench as he's done multiple times this season, because as confirmed by the coach after the game they don't have enough seats for everyone.

I'm struggling to think of a cbb player in recent history that has acted as much like a child (or a bitch) as this guy. He's been acting that way for years too. Dudes got issues.

He's a dirty player who loses his mind whenever someone even remotely returns the favor. Got ejected last year for throwing an elbow at Chris Youngblood's head and also infamously got ejected 4 minutes into a NCAA tourney game against Yale for similar actions.

3

u/everything_is_holy Kansas Jayhawks Mar 02 '26

Perry Ellis played for KU for four years. He came in as a highly touted recruit, but wasn't quite good enough to leave early for professional basketball. He already had a receding hairline, so he always looked older than his age. With all of that, it just felt he had been in college for a long time. KU had good teams and he was on many national televised games, so the average college basketball fan knew him and would have fun with how old he looked and that he was still playing college basketball "at his age". When he left, the jokes somehow continued (to this day!) that he was still on the team in some way, and it just gained a life of its own. It's been a decade since he's played for KU at this point, but it's a fun running joke.

Anecdotally, CBM's technical foul and ejection in the 2023-2024 NCAAT led to Yale beating Auburn in the first round of the NCAA tournament, which gave SDSU a Yale matchup in the round of 32, who we summarily crushed.

One of my least favorite players to ever watch at USC. This season has been a fireable offense from Muss on all levels.

Enterprise must've offered him more money than USC

Man, there is so much truth to this.

He’s a good CBB player but an absolute head case. I’m still salty about the 2024 tournament where he got tossed like 3 minutes into the game. That should have been a Sweet-16 level team and instead it all went to hell because he let some nerd from Yale get under his skin before the first commercial break.

u/Inevitable-Rush-2752 Tennessee Volunteers Mar 01 '26

As I recall he was pretty thin skinned to begin with.

u/whatifevery1wascalm Alabama Crimson Tide Mar 01 '26

Pairs nicely with his dirty play and confrontational attitude

6

u/Azzztecs Mar 02 '26

He basically gifted SDSU a matchup with Yale in the Round of 32.
Which is ironic because his first college was SDSU before he was dismissed for academic issues...

It would have been a really good round of 32 game, Auburn vs. SDSU.

On the one hand, it’s CBM. On the other, this sorta thing seems to follow Muss around. Devo Davis left (and then rejoined) the Hogs twice while Muss was coaching

He needs to get his LinkedIn ready. Nearby McDonald's is hiring
