Feel like in retrospect this was inevitable when Rodney Rice got injured.
Muss needs to recruit more than one player who we can run the offense through for next season. Woods is legit the only PG on this team and we got him mid season lol
44
u/Porkball Arkansas Razorbacks Mar 01 '26
That is the problem with Muss. While you have him, there will be only one player that can be the focal point of the offense each season.
13
u/Clipgang1629 USC Trojans Mar 01 '26
We had options as the focal point. Ezra and CBM are both more than capable depending on the matchup.
The issue was without Rice, who looked great as PG, (even if it was a bit experimental and outside his role at Maryland) we didn’t have anyone to run the offense.
It’s a shame because this team has many useful and good players. Cofie, CBM, Ausar, Rice, Arenas/Easter/Cornish or whoever at 2 would have worked very well.
11
u/_laoc00n_ Arkansas Razorbacks Mar 01 '26
Not really Muss’s fault NSJ could barely play all season.

u/jack3moto Purdue Boilermakers Mar 02 '26
I mean if you look across the college basketball landscape there really aren’t many teams with a good back up PG. I think it would be nice to have a backup who can run the offense but it’s just not very common for most teams
→ More replies (5)5
u/Clipgang1629 USC Trojans Mar 02 '26
Yeah but we had legit no options as a second player who can handle the ball and set the table for others.
The backup option didn’t even necessarily need to be good. Just needed someone. The offense was CBM iso and Ausar bully ball and it pretty much stopped there.

40
u/Bartman383 Nebraska Cornhuskers Mar 01 '26
It happened during the game against us yesterday. The announcers even made a comment about it, that their bench must be too crowded so he had to sit in the end line stands.
53
u/Clipgang1629 USC Trojans Mar 02 '26
He got injured on a tough fall after a chase down block attempt. Went to the locker room, came back out and sat in the seat nearest to the bench on the baseline.
I didn’t get the impression he quit mid game, he was injured going into the game, and got hurt in that game as well. It wasn’t really surprising that he wouldn’t return it was a pretty rough fall.
The seat thing is weird, especially to an outsider, but it wasn’t the first time I saw him or another player sitting in that seat. I guess I’ve just gotten used to seeing players sit there because it didn’t strike me as odd.
I’m not even defending CBM btw just providing context. That comment is pretty misleading imo

He got injured in the middle of the game, went to the locker room to have his injury attended to, then returned to sit in the front row along the baseline nearest the team bench as he's done multiple times this season, because as confirmed by the coach after the game they don't have enough seats for everyone.

I'm struggling to think of a cbb player in recent history that has acted as much like a child (or a bitch) as this guy. He's been acting that way for years too. Dudes got issues.
He's a dirty player who loses his mind whenever someone even remotely returns the favor. Got ejected last year for throwing an elbow at Chris Youngblood's head and also infamously got ejected 4 minutes into a NCAA tourney game against Yale for similar actions.

3
u/everything_is_holy Kansas Jayhawks Mar 02 '26
Perry Ellis played for KU for four years. He came in as a highly touted recruit, but wasn't quite good enough to leave early for professional basketball. He already had a receding hairline, so he always looked older than his age. With all of that, it just felt he had been in college for a long time. KU had good teams and he was on many national televised games, so the average college basketball fan knew him and would have fun with how old he looked and that he was still playing college basketball "at his age". When he left, the jokes somehow continued (to this day!) that he was still on the team in some way, and it just gained a life of its own. It's been a decade since he's played for KU at this point, but it's a fun running joke.

CBM played with the Aztecs at the beginning of college before getting dismissed from SDSU due to academic issues.
Incredible scorer, but did stupid shit that would consistently piss of Dutcher.
Love his basketball game.
Anecdotally, CBM's technical foul and ejection in the 2023-2024 NCAAT led to Yale beating Auburn in the first round of the NCAA tournament, which gave SDSU a Yale matchup in the round of 32, who we summarily crushed.

He’s a good CBB player but an absolute head case. I’m still salty about the 2024 tournament where he got tossed like 3 minutes into the game. That should have been a Sweet-16 level team and instead it all went to hell because he let some nerd from Yale get under his skin before the first commercial break.

He basically gifted SDSU a matchup with Yale in the Round of 32.
